Experiencia de clase

Students will learn the basics of comic book creation which are: Word Balloons, Dialogue, action lines, panels, sound effects, narration style, and zooming in. The fundamentals are focused on more than a completed comic book. Students will also view animations Dragonball, Kodocha, Special A to learn how animation and movies help comic building. These are short clips.

1-1 guaranteed at current pricing.

Please don't have premade panels

If your child has an understanding of action lines, word balloons, and basic design they should be prepared to participate if they want advanced work. This means having a comic idea ready and explaining their plan, as well as drawing. You may also join my advanced course: Creating Comics

Everyone will work on their independent comics. Students will be expected to pause on their comics now and again to listen to the examples. The option, to view the recording to review any missed content is available.

In the first 10 minutes, students will be given an ice breaker game "Superfight" to build comic character ideas.

The rest of the time will be spent viewing comic book examples, working on comic techniques, and giving individual feedback. Students should be drawing examples they don't know, made by the teacher whether they have a comic book idea or not.

The choices are to make their own independent comic AND draw the examples the teacher shows. Or if no comic idea, just draw what the teacher draws.

Students may ask for feedback, and help drawing features that are simple. I can edit student drawings after class if needed

******This is NOT a how-to-draw characters class. I can help students with some drawing, but students who struggle with drawing in general, especially people, should build their confidence in singular large drawing first, or tell me to slow down as needed.

****** There is a group discussion in the beginning, however, the focus is more on independent work with check-ins from the instructor who may ask for ideas from the other students.

Please note that the instructor will be doing comic art and visual comic book examples on photoshop. Students do not need photoshop. Only the materials listed.

Orientación para padres
Transfer requests must be made 24 hours in advance or more. Recording is available upon request. I cannot transfer to an empty slot. This may not be suitable for ESL as there is a lot of fast-talking. Multitasking is involved as i'll stop them to listen to me now and again, then return them to their comics. If they prefer to just focus on their comic, and refer to the recording, that's fine, everyone works differently. The reviews have been mostly positive about multitasking, but i understand if your child prefers not to. Children should know how to fold their papers to look like books, if they don't, please have this done before class or help them. They should also know how to draw boxes using a ruler or by hand for their panels. Please don't have premade panels, it takes away from the learning. If your child has an understanding of action lines, word balloons, and basic design they should be prepared to participate if they want advanced work. This means having a comic idea ready and explaining their plan, as well as drawing. A lot of what makes a comic developed is understanding panel design, pacing etc. This class is mainly for students who are new to comic design and prepared to create a story or learn basic concepts, if it's too easy that means they don't need an intro course. This is a required sharing class. Drawings can be left private, not the writing.
