Welcome to Learn About the Artists Elementary Drawing!  I am so happy that you have joined me! In this Mini course students will learn about eight influential artists:  Vincent Van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, Claude Monet, Georgia O’Keeffe and Leonardo Da Vinci, Pierre Renoir, Georges Seurat, and Wassily Kandinsky. [Please note: Private 1:1 tutoring is available for this course as well. Please see the link at the end of this course description.] Each week a new artist will be introduced, followed by a drawing lesson in which students will draw and color a rendition of the artist's most important painting. The lesson will be followed by a short story to compliment the artist. Each lesson will also be supplemented with engaging interactive experiences. At the end of each lesson students can upload a picture of their completed drawings for teacher comment. Students will also have a chance to comment on each other’s drawings. Students will have a chance to complete optional individual art projects at home to supplement the class. Projects can be shared with other students in the classroom. Students may comment on each other’s work. 
Week 1: Vincent Van Gogh
During this class students will learn about Vincent Van Gogh. We will draw one of his most famous paintings “The Starry Night” The first half of class students will develop a drawing in five progressive steps. They will learn that drawings can also be broken down to five basic shapes. During the second half of class, students will learn basic coloring technique. Your child will be astonished by the infinity of the stars in the nighttime sky and the bright, bold colors in their completed masterpiece! It is my hope that I can instill a love for drawing as well as a sense of confidence in your young learner! 
Interactive activities:
1.Submit a picture of your completed drawing for teacher and student comment.  
Week 2: Pablo Picasso
During this class students will have a brief introduction to the artist, Pablo Picasso and learn about the art movement he founded known as “Cubism.” This will be followed by a drawing lesson in which students will draw and color one of Picasso’s famous paintings called, “Girl with a boat.” Picasso used many geometric shapes placed in unusual positions to create fun filled and often compelling pieces of art! He also used a lot of bright colors to show feeling in his work! Your child will be astonished by the many geometric shapes they draw in their completed masterpiece! Never again will they look at shapes, form, and color in the same way! 
Interactive activities:
1.Submit a picture of your completed drawing for teacher and student comment. 
Week 3:  Claude Monet
During this class students will have a brief introduction to the artist, Claude Monet and learn about the art movement he founded known as “Impressionism.” This will be followed by a drawing lesson in which students will draw and color one of Monet’s famous paintings called, “Woman with Parasol.” During the first half of class students will develop the drawing in five progressive steps. They will learn that drawings can also be broken down into five basic shapes. Monet used bold colorful brush strokes and lots of natural sunlight to create beautiful and often compelling pieces of art! He often painted the same image at different times of the day to capture different moods. Your child will be inspired by the use of light and color in their completed masterpiece! Never again will they look at color and sunshine in the same way!
Interactive activities:
1.Submit a picture of your completed drawing for teacher and student comment. 2. Use watercolors to paint your own version of waterlilies. Upload a picture of your painting for teacher comment. Students will have a chance to comment on fellow students' artwork. 
Week 4: Georgia O'Keeffe
During this class students will have a brief introduction to the artist, Georgia O’Keeffe. We will draw and color one of her most famous paintings “An Orchid!” Your child will be astonished by the bright and bold colors that Georgia O’Keeffe used to make her grand and radical depictions of flowers! They will discover that they too can create beautiful angiosperms and follow in the footsteps of this “Mother of American Modernism!” It is my hope that I can instill a love for drawing as well as a sense of confidence in your young learner! 
Interactive activities:
1.Submit a picture of your completed drawing for teacher and student comment. 2. Create a flower using a pipe cleaner and colorful tissue paper. Follow the link below for video instructions. Take a picture of your flower and upload it to the classroom for teacher Comment. Students will have the opportunity to comment on each other’s flowers.

Week 5: Leonardo Da Vinci
During this class students will have a brief introduction to the artist, Leonardo Da Vinci. We will draw and color one of his most famous paintings “The Mona Lisa.” Color pencil techniques will be taught during this portrait lesson. Your child will be astonished by the beauty, clarity, and color of their drawing! This is a portrait of the Mona Lisa that they can be proud of! 
Interactive activities:
1.Submit a picture of your completed drawing to the classroom for teacher and student comment. 2. Using a medium of your choice look at yourself in a mirror and create a self-portrait.  
Week 6: Pierre Renoir
During this class students will learn about Pierre Renoir. We will draw one of his most famous paintings, “A Girl with a Watering Can.” The first half of class students will develop a drawing in five progressive steps. They will learn that drawings can also be broken down to five basic shapes. During the second half of class, students will learn basic coloring techniques. Your child will be astonished by the sense of innocence and calm they can create through the drawing! Renoir often wanted to capture the soft beauty of mothers with children! It is my hope that I can instill a love for drawing as well as a sense of confidence in your young learner! 
Optional Interactive activities:	1. Submit a picture of your completed drawing for teacher and student comment. 2. Complete an imaginative drawing of yourself engaged in a fun activity with mom! Use colored pencils to complete your drawing. Students will have a chance to comment on fellow learners' artwork. 
Week 7: Georges Seurat
During this class students will have a brief introduction to the artist, Georges Seurat and learn about the art movement he founded known as “Pointillism.” This will be followed by a drawing lesson in which students will draw and color one of Seurat’s famous paintings called, “A Sunday on La Grande Jatte.” Seurat used many small dots to create unique and compelling paintings! He also used a lot of bright colors to show modern urban life during the early 19th century. Your child will be astonished by the many dots they draw to create a precise drawing! Never again will they look at dots in the same way! 
Optional Interactive activities:	1. Submit a picture of your completed drawing for teacher and student comment. 2.  Draw a picture of your bedroom. Use watercolors and Q-tips to create an image in the pointillism style. Take a picture of your drawing and share it in the classroom for teacher comment. Students will have a chance to comment on fellow learners' artwork.
Week 8: Wassily Kandinsky
During this class students will have a brief introduction to the artist, Wassily Kandinsky. and learn about the art movement he founded known as “Abstract Art.” They will understand how a genetic condition known as Synesthesia contributed to his talent as an artist! This will be followed by a drawing lesson in which students will draw and color one of Kandinsky’s famous paintings called, “Horses Running.” During the first half of class students will develop the drawing in five progressive steps. Kandinsky listened to music and saw colors and shapes that inspired his awesome paintings. Your child will be inspired by how our senses can mix and inspire creativity! Never again will they look at color and sound in the same way!
Optional Interactive activities:	1. Submit a picture of your completed drawing for teacher and student comment. 2. Listen to your favorite classical music piece. Imagine different colors as you listen. Paint what you see on a canvas or sheet of paper! Upload a picture of your painting for teacher comment. Students will have a chance to comment on fellow students' artwork. 


This art class is full of engagement. Students will:
* Post weekly a completed drawing of their class artwork
* Enjoy and share theme-based projects with classmates
* Have an opportunity to praise and comment on fellow learners’ artwork
