Students will learn the step by step process of designing a collection and the real-world responsibilities of a Fashion Designer. We will discuss concept boards, market research, fashion forecasting, color palettes, print development, textile sourcing, hand sketching, technical sketching, tech packs, draping, pattern making, sample making, merchandising, and market week presentation. Although we will not be sketching in class, this will be a visual, insider peek into the real-life application of the design process. I encourage students to have a pencil and paper nearby to take notes or sketch if so inspired! At the end of class, we will have a short Q and A for any unanswered questions and additional insider insights. No previous experience is required, but a general interest or curiosity in pursuing a career in Fashion Design is preferred. (please feel free to suggest a time that fits your schedule)

Hi everyone! My name is Stacia and I spent nearly 15 years working as a designer in the heart of the fashion district in NYC. 🗽
The most gratifying aspect of my job as a fashion designer has always been nurturing young talent. I recently moved to my hometown of Chicago and teach as an Adjunct Professor of Fashion Studies teaching Sustainability in Fashion, Fashion Product Development, and Design Concepts. 👗
My passion has always been art and design, and my classes focus on color, concept, design elements, sketching, and fashion design fundamentals. 🎨
My love of art began before kindergarten, and while I pursued many interests throughout my childhood, it was that creative spark that led me to my career. I believe nurturing the innate passions of children is formative to whichever careers they choose! I always strive to engage my students in a fun, interactive, and inspiring environment! 💕
CLASS FAQs
Q: My child hasn't taken a fashion design class before, but loves to draw. Where should they start?
A: Fashion Design Team Challenge is a fun, creative class to start with!
Q: My child needs step-by-step instructions on HOW to draw clothing. What class should they take?
A: Drawing Technique for Aspiring Fashion Designers (live class) or Clothing Design 101 (self-paced)

A: Yes, Fashion Design Concepts: Semester Course for Teens (intro college curriculum)
Q: What self-paced class should my child take first?
A: Intro to Fashion Design
Q: I have a neurodivergent child who has difficulty in the traditional school setting. Are any of your classes a good fit?
A: Yes! My classes are designed for the inclusion of neurodiverse students (ex. ADHD). Learners are encouraged to explore their own ideas and share sketches with the class at any time. Conversation and questions are encouraged! Fashion Design Team Challenge, Fashion Design + Illustration, Fashion Design Studio, and Drawing Technique all follow this ethos!
Q: My child wants to learn more about fashion designers! What class should they take?
A: Fashion Design Studio: Runway-Inspired Sketch Club (weekly sketching) or Fashion Design Concepts: Semester Course for Teens (in-depth curriculum)
Q: I can't find a class that fits my schedule, what are my options?
A: Self-paced courses are a perfect solution because you can take the lesson at any time and have direct feedback from me each week! (I suggest Intro to Fashion Design!) If you prefer live classes, please message me on Outschool and I may be able to start a new section that works for you!
Q: What supplies do I need?
A: Most of my classes only need basic supplies you would have at home- plain paper (or sketchbook), markers or colored pencils, and a pencil/eraser. Some classes may also include custom printouts that are provided upon signup, so you may need access to a printer for certain classes. If this is an issue, please let me know!
