In this 10-week course, students will be introduced to the foundational principles of economics through a mix of real-world examples, interactive activities, and age-appropriate discussion. While artificial intelligence is not the primary focus, we will make light connections to how technology is influencing economic decisions, the job market, and global trade. Week 1 – Introduction to Economics & AI What is economics? Why do we study it? How is AI starting to influence economic systems? Week 2 – Scarcity, Choice & Opportunity Cost Understanding limited resources and how individuals, businesses, and governments make trade-offs. Week 3 – Supply & Demand How prices are set in markets and how AI can influence consumer behavior. Week 4 – Market Structures Exploring competition, monopolies, and how data gives companies an edge. Week 5 – Labor & the Economy Jobs, wages, and how automation and AI are reshaping the workforce. Week 6 – Economic Growth & Development What drives a growing economy? Innovation, capital, and productivity—plus a look at AI’s role. Week 7 – Money, Banking & Inflation Understanding money systems, inflation, and the basics of banking and monetary policy. Week 8 – Government & the Economy Taxes, subsidies, regulations, and the debate over government’s role in tech markets. Week 9 – International Trade & Globalization Why countries trade, how supply chains work, and the effects of globalization. Week 10 – The Future of the Economy Predicting trends in jobs, technology, and policy. What’s next for the global economy? This course is perfect for learners who enjoy asking “why” and want to better understand how the world works—from prices at the store to major global trends. No prior experience in economics is needed!
