Introducción a la astronomía: K-4 (1)

Students are welcome to class that have no astronomy experience!

This course is a 1x a week course for 12 weeks. Our course will be covering an introductory series in astronomy. We will have lectures, class discussions, and hands on experiments. 

One experiment will be completed in class each week. Materials will be posted and students will have the choice to bring the items to class and work along with the teacher or they can simply watch the experiment if they prefer. 

Students will have hand-outs each week. These will be used as guided notes. Students are not required to complete the hand-outs as homework. However, the teacher will provided feedback and help if there are additional questions on the guided notes and follow up questions after the experiment. 

Some topics will involve slide shows for information. There will not be slide shows each week as some topics are covered through lecture, guided notes and experiments.

week 1- Intro to the Cosmos and Astronomers
week 2- Astronomy Tools
week 3- Earth, Moon, Tides, Eclipses, and Weather
week 4 - Moon, Sun, Energy of the Sun
week 5- Types of Planets
week 6 - Northern and Southern Hemisphere Constellations
 week 7- Orbits, Our Solar System
week 8 - Stars, Stars with Planets
week 9- Galaxies
week 10- The Milky Way, where earth is, how earth moves
week 11- spiral galaxies, other types of galaxies, local galaxies
week 12- comets, astroid, exploding stars, nebulae


Class Schedule:
5 min- Intro
10 - topic introduction and key vocabulary
15 - lecture on topic/slideshows/student q&a 
15 - experiment and wrap up

Our course will cover everything that students need to know! No need to prep before class. Just come in and enjoy hand-on virtual learning with new friends!
