Let's code our own video games using Scratch! Each week we will design a video game using popular video game characters, see schedule below. You can join the ongoing class as little or as often as you'd like. Each class is designed for kids who have used Scratch before. Learners should be able to code basic things like getting a sprite to move up, down, and side to side using the arrows. Learners should already have a knowledge of backdrops, sound effects, and sprites. These topics will not be covered in this class, but will be covered in our other coding courses designed for beginners. Crazy Kids Coding Class sequence: Step 1: Take 2-5 weeks of our "Introduction to Coding - Scratch for Beginners" class. Step 2: Take one of our level 2 classes: Option 1: Video Game Coding Club Using Scratch - For Kids 7-13 Option 2: Digital Art and Story Telling With Scratch Step 3: Intermediate Video Game Coding Club Other available coding classes: Scratch Jr. for kids ages 3-7 Private 1:1 lessons Follow this link to enroll in the other classes: https://outschool.com/teachers/Jamie-Baldwin-Walker When kids learn to code and create their own games, they are are the creators, rather than just the user of someone else's creation. It is an excellent skill for technology loving kids that required problem solving, multitasking, creativity, and story telling. Through coding they learn the complexities of video game creation, and benefit from actually creating the game, rather than just playing the finished product. Once they've taken this class, they will be able to use their Scratch account and knowledge they've gained to continue making their own creations, even after class has ended. In this class you will need a computer, mouse, keyboard, and a web browser open to https://scratch.mit.edu/. Please create a username and password before class starts so you can save the project we create. We will not be using Scratch Jr. or any apps in this class. This class works best if taken using two screens so students can easily see the teacher's screen and their own, but one screen will work too. A link will be sent out at least 60 minutes prior to class with the "starter pack" we will be using for that class. The last 10 minutes of class is set aside for students who need individual help. Students who have completed building the code and do not need individual help are welcome to stay the last 10 minutes of class, but they also have the option to leave after 60 minutes if they have completed the project without any issues.
