ALL SECTIONS FOR THIS COURSE IN 2024-25 SCHOOL YEAR are SOLD OUT. Please add your learner to the waitlist, enroll in FALL 2025 or complete the self-paced version of this course with teacher support. Link here: https://outschool.com/classes/interior-design-skills-101-semester-course-self-paced-nevrloie?usid=AZiyNU2x&signup=true&utm_campaign=share_activity_link In this high school level semester class, students will learn the foundations of Interior Design, while doing short assignments to build a resource book to prepare for a career in interior design. They will work with me, a professional Interior Designer & educator, to learn and practice interior design skills each week, including materials used in construction, types of window coverings & fabrics, color application & lighting, using accessories, how to create a design style and more. They will also learn about a different area of interior design each week in the career highlight portion of the class. After they complete each weekly class, an assignment will be given to present in the next class, such as build a collage of accessories, select flooring for a new home, etc. Having the students present in class will prepare them for discussing their designs with clients. At the end of the semester, students will be asked to present their own final design project (a room, home or public space) and explain how they incorporated all the skills they have learned throughout the course. What to expect: 🎥 13 Lessons on Interior Design Professional Skills in a lecture & slide show format. 📝 Recommended Weekly Assignments & Final Design Project: No quizzes/tests. Teacher assesses by participation, turning in assignments on time and final projects. ✨ Certificate of Completion. Families can use this course to meet academic needs and reports/grades available by request. Important Notes: 🎥 Students need cameras or a verification check from Outschool as well as good audio to participate in this course. If there is no verification check, students must attend first class with a video check-in to be able to watch class recordings. Class make-ups are available per parent request. 👩🏫Teacher availability is limited to a set number of live classes each school semester. Please check-out the self-paced version of this course or join the waitlist, if live class is not available. 👍 Skills taught are based on Ms. Katie's professional interior design experience on the job and in a university degree program. The goal is to prepare the student for a design career or post high education in interior design. 👨⚕️ Class will begin promptly, starting with a discussion/presentation of last week's assignments by the students. Then, I will give a visual presentation of that week's topic. Finally, we will have a discussion and explanation of the next assignment. ❓ Questions, concerns? Message Ms. Katie anytime. About Ms. Katie: I am a professional designer, who holds a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Design (Architectural, Interior, Landscape) as well as worked in the building and furnishing industries for over two decades in California and Washington States.
