Class Description: In "Insights for 8th Graders: Understanding the College Admissions Process," students will explore what college is, why it matters, and how the admissions process works. They'll gain clarity on key concepts, timelines, and what’s ahead in their educational journey—empowering them to approach the future with confidence. What will be taught? Students will learn the fundamentals of college admissions, including the types of colleges, key terms like majors and financial aid, and how high school connects to their future goals. What topics will be covered? *Types of colleges (public, private, community, trade schools). *Majors, minors, and areas of study. *The admissions process (applications, essays, etc.). *Key timelines and the role of high school. *College costs and financial aid basics. *Campus life highlights (clubs, sports, events). How is the class structured? The course runs for 4 weeks, meeting once a week for 25 minutes. Each session focuses on a specific theme with interactive activities, discussions, and time for student questions. How will I teach? Lessons will be age-appropriate, engaging, and easy to follow. I’ll use relatable examples, fun facts, and interactive moments to keep learners interested and actively involved in the discussion. What's my teaching style? My teaching style is supportive, approachable, and interactive. I aim to create a positive space where students feel encouraged to ask questions and express curiosity about the future, while ensuring they walk away with clear and practical knowledge.
