Pack your bags and join me this fall for a writing adventure as we use U.S. history as a guide for our writing. This is a year-long course that covers 9 units of writing skills. If you have not taken an IEW theme-based writing program before, please note that it follows a specific methodology: "Invention (what to say), Structure (how to organize it), and Style (how to say it)." Each week we will have a history-based writing lesson focusing on stories of the past. This includes a lesson in: * a specific subject and structure. * stylistic techniques to enhance your writing. * an introduction to new vocabulary words * writing practice. I am a huge fan of reinforcing concepts with gameplay so, if time allows, I often try to include some kind of activity to keep learners engaged and solidify what they're learning. These may include Kahoot, Gimkit, or other games created by me. The first semester of this course takes place over fifteen weeks meeting one time per week. Below are the units we will cover this semester. For additional information, please see the Syllabus. UNIT 1: NOTE MAKING AND OUTLINES UNIT 2: WRITING FROM NOTES UNIT 3: RETELLING NARRATIVE STORIES UNIT 4: SUMMARIZING A REFERENCE UNIT 5: WRITING FROM PICTURES The second semester picks back up starting with Lesson 16. *** Please note that this is a WRITING course. While the lessons are history-themed, they are not meant to take place of a history class. Instead, we will be focusing on the writing structure and style during our meetings. ***

Orientación para padres
IEW is a wonderful writing program but, especially in the beginning, is best for those who have writing support at home. While the content is not the most important part of the program, being able to follow the directions and guidance supplied in class and in the workbooks is.
Gimkit, Blooket, and Kahoot! will be used for gameplay as an assessment tool in addition to what learners write in class. Please note that an account is not required. The game code will be sent to learners during class.
Google Suites products (Docs, Slides, Forms) will be used to present materials and submit writing assignments. Students are welcome to use the writing tool that best suits their needs and is approved by each family.

As a lifelong learner, I too am always striving for growth. After years of using the IEW curriculum, I decided I wanted to share what I had learned with others and became a registered instructor with IEW. (Link for verification: https://iew.com/events-classes/instructors/find-accredited-instructor/330449) I have also been a tutor (teacher) for a local classical co-op, studied through literature seminars, and attended practicums to enhance my own reading and writing knowledge.
I am also a certified TESOL/TEFL/EYL teacher, professional writer, beta reader, proofreader, editor, and homeschool mom. I have a love for the English language (I have the BA in English to prove it), the smell of new books, and transferring ideas from mind to paper. My goal is to promote a love of learning while offering a safe and fun environment. I truly have a passion for reading and writing and would love to share my knowledge and experience with your children.
