This is part two of Ancient History-Based Writing Lessons with IEW. In this writing class, students will use stories from ancient history as a model for developing excellent writing skills. Students should have basic knowledge of English grammar. This includes understanding what a noun, verb, adjective, and adverb are and how to locate them in a sentence. Students should be able to read at a fifth-grade level or higher. Students must have completed part one of this course (Units 1-5) before enrolling. We will meet 2x each week. Students will have homework to turn in. Students will need to be able to turn in their assignments through the Outschool classroom. ***Learners will need to be able to complete assigned homework. This will include writing and completing paragraphs that we will discuss in class. At times students will have opportunities to present their stories to the class. This is not a graded class however students will receive feedback on the assignments that they turn in and be given points for each assignment. Learners will need the student book for IEW Ancient History-Based Writing Lessons by Lori Verstegen https://iew.com/shop/products/ancient-history-based-writing-lessons-student-book-only In this class, students will complete units 6-9 of the book. In this class students will: -Practice making keyword outlines and narrating a story using their outlines -Practice retelling a story in their own words using their outlines -Practice creating a title for their story -Practice using strong verbs, quality adjectives, and -ly adverbs -Practice using sentence openers -Practice decorating their sentences with who-which clauses -Practice writing a 3 paragraph report -Practice summarizing referencing -Practice writing a formal essay -Practice inventive writing This class will meet 2x each week. During class, I will teach the lesson or concept that the students will be working on. I will model lessons and we will work together in class to brainstorm ideas. Students will be expected to complete assignments after each class. Students should expect to spend time outside of class completing their assignments. A basic understanding of English grammar is required. No class March 25-28.
