Each theme aligns with the temas troncales (core themes) of the International Baccalaureate curriculum, providing cultural context while improving Spanish language skills. What Will Be Taught? 🌎 Students will dive into topics like traditions, art, music, cuisine, and global issues from Spanish-speaking countries. The class enhances cultural understanding and Spanish language skills through interactive activities. How Is the Class Structured? Each session uses videos, readings, pictures, and class discussions. 💬 Participation is highly encouraged, as these skills are essential for the IB exam. How Will You Teach? My teaching style is interactive and student-focused. 🗣️ I’ll use videos, slides, and real-world examples to keep students engaged and help them connect with the material. What Topics Will You Cover? Each week covers a different theme: Week 1: October 28 - November 3: Spanish-Speaking Cultures and Traditions (Identidades) 🎉 Focus: Explore the unique traditions and celebrations of Spanish-speaking countries (e.g., Día de los Muertos in Mexico, La Tomatina in Spain). Week 2: November 4 - November 10 Art and Music of the Spanish-Speaking World (Ingenio Humano) 🎨🎶 Focus: Dive into the vibrant art and music scenes from regions like Spain, Latin America, and the Caribbean (e.g., Flamenco, salsa, Diego Rivera murals). Week 3: November 11 - November 17 Spanish-Speaking Countries in the Modern World (Organización Social) 🌍 Focus: Understand the role of Spanish-speaking countries in global issues today (e.g., environmental challenges, political movements, social justice). Week 4: November 18 - November 24 Hispanic Cuisine – Culture on a Plate (Experiencias) 🍲🍽️ Focus: Learn about the traditional dishes of various Spanish-speaking countries and their cultural significance. Week 5: November 25 - December 1 Environmental Issues in the Spanish-Speaking World (Compartir el Planeta) 🌱♻️ Focus: Explore how Spanish-speaking countries address environmental challenges, sustainability, and sharing resources (e.g., deforestation, water scarcity, climate change). How Much Will Learners Get to Interact with You? Learners will interact with me through lectures, group discussions, and games. 🎮 Students are encouraged to share ideas and participate, preparing them for the type of interaction required in the IB exam.

As a teacher with a master's degree in Spanish language and culture, and a bachelor's degree in philology and languages, I have extensive knowledge and experience in the Spanish language and its diverse cultural nuances. My studies have allowed me to gain a deep understanding of the Spanish language, its grammar, and its historical context. Additionally, I have lived in Spanish-speaking countries and have immersed myself in their cultures, allowing me to gain a first-hand perspective on the traditions, customs, and values of these communities.
My thesis and research on "El uso del Patrimonio Cultural Inmaterial en la clase de ELE" (The Use of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Spanish as a Second Language Classroom) serves as a testament to my in-depth knowledge of Spanish culture and my ability for integrating cultural concepts into language acquisition.
I have investigated how several cultural aspects—like holidays, customs, and historical factors—relate to language learning through my research. I can teach a thorough and interesting reading and writing course for heritage speakers thanks to my knowledge of the Spanish language and culture. This way, I can ensure that students learn the language while also getting a better understanding of their cultural origins.
