This class is designed to give learners the skills they need in writing sentences, the basic building blocks of longer writing forms. Learners will get comfortable with the basics and the essentials of sentence writing: ✔️what sentences are ✔️what parts they are made from ✔️how they are punctuated ✔️purposes of different kinds of sentences ✔️avoiding run-ons ✔️avoiding fragments ✔️joining sentences ✔️adding details to sentences Weekly Skills Focus: October 20: Complete Sentences/Fragments October 27: Types of Sentences November 3: Types of Sentences November 10: Discovering Subjects and Verbs November 17: Using More Than One Subject November 24: Using More Than One Verb December 1: Spotting Sentence Parts: Articles December 8: Spotting Sentence Parts: Prepositions December 15: Spotting Sentence Parts: Adjectives December 22: Beginning With Capital Letters December 29: Ending Sentences With Punctuation January 5: Avoiding Run On Sentences January 12: Avoiding Incomplete Sentences January 19: Joining Sentences January 26: Using Adjectives to Describe February 2: Choosing A Topic/Related Details February 9: Picture Prompt Creative Sentence Writing/Staying Focused February 16: Complete Sentences/Fragments February 23: Types of Sentences March 9: Types of Sentences March 16: Discovering Subjects and Verbs March 23: Using More Than One Subject March 30: Using More Than One Verb April 6: Spotting Sentence Parts: Articles April 13: Spotting Sentence Parts: Prepositions April 20: Spotting Sentence Parts: Adjectives April 27: Beginning With Capital Letters May 4: Ending Sentences With Punctuation May 11: Avoiding Run On Sentences May 18: Avoiding Incomplete Sentences May 25: Joining Sentences June 1: Using Adjectives to Describe June 8: Choosing A Topic/Related Details June 15: Picture Prompt Creative Sentence Writing/Staying Focused The class follows the following format: 🤔Step 1: Brainstorming Learners start with a simple sentence then brainstorm ideas for adding who, what, where, and when words and phrases, as well as describing words (adjectives and adverbs.) 🗣️Step 2: Oral Sentences As learners add more details to their sentences, they practice reading their new super sentences aloud. While trying out different combinations of descriptive words and phrases, learners become actively involved in the writing process and gain a better understanding of the parts of a sentence. ✏️Step 3: Sentence Writing Now that they're full of ideas, learners can begin to write their own sentences. Writing forms with fun illustrations motivate learners to form super sentences. They can piece together the words and phrases from the brainstorming activity, or come up with words and phrases of their own. ✔️Step 4: Proof and Correct Learners are encouraged to self-edit by reading their work aloud.
