Do you know and honor all the things that make you unique? Join me in this one time class as we learn about affirmations, and create an "I Can" to hold our writing papers. "I am Human: A Book of Empathy" by Susan Verde, is our source of inspiration as we discuss how we can see ourselves more positively, and build strong self image. Experimenting with different materials and papers is encouraged for our writing, and students will need a clean smooth aluminum can to make their "I Can ". After reading together, we will have a tutor on how to draw eyes. The eye symbolically represents what we see about ourselves and our goals. Our drawings will remind us of the affirmations inside the can, ready to pull out and read when needed!

1. Listen for details and observe artistic elements including line, color and pattern.
2. Have conversations about our ideas and be respectful of our differences.
3. Create "I Can" statements.

As in any classroom setting, I will adapt to any specific needs that are addressed with slower pace, or step by step instruction as needed.

paper ( any papers that can be torn or cut and written on) pencil and eraser pencil sharpener scissors glue stick or double sided tape fine Sharpie or a black color pencil ( for outlining) aluminum Can (Soup can size) clean with smooth edges inside or taped coloring materials of your choice (ie: colored pencils, crayons, or markers) any kind of embellishments like stickers or beads may be added

Fuentes
Our inspiration will come from the book "I Am Human: A Book of Empathy" by Susan Verde. We will share and discuss this book in class before beginning our journaling art project.
