If you've ever seen the feathery flurry of a hummingbird flying, you know these birds are special. They are more than a beautiful bundle of energy. Their adaptations are remarkable, whether it's the way they fly, how they save energy and weight, their migration, their iridescence, or how they eat. By taking a closer look at hummingbirds, learners will gain insight into just how amazing their adaptations are. Students will learn about: A brief history of the myths and role of hummingbirds in the New World Where hummingbirds live Hummingbird flight (think helicopter!) Feathers and coloration Speed feeding and bill shape Energy conservation in hummingbirds Migration The future of hummingbirds Bonus! Learning about the adaptations of hummingbirds also touchs on subjects like aerodynamics, light refraction, and geography.

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
I lived and worked (bird research) in the tropical rainforests of Panama and Costa Rica and have spent time in the Amazon rainforest as well. I LOVE sharing my deep understanding and personal experiences about this unique ecosystem and the animals in it. (I have held these tiny jewels in my hands, so I have a special place in my heart for them!) I have taught about tropical rainforests, biodiversity and nature conservation subjects to people of all ages and bring groups of adults to the rainforests of Panama annually. While my aim is for students to learn about this special group of birds, my hope is to ignite and encourage an interest in nature more broadly.
