Grado de EE. UU. 5 - 8
This class will be covering the first twelve chapters of Howard Zinn's A Young People's History of the United States. Being a FLEX class, it is primarily for the student who plans to read the text and needs a little guidance for understanding, a source to ask questions when needed, and prefers to discuss larger ideas online with peers. Each week a list of comprehension questions will be posted. These questions will serve as a guide and the basis of our online conversations. Also shared will be a selection of videos related to the chapter and a corresponding activity. Lastly, each week a thought question will be shared in the classroom. Students will engage with each other, sharing their thoughts on the question as well responding to a minimum of one other peer. No prior knowledge is needed. It is important to note that this text presents history often from the perspective of various marginalized groups, and uses primary resources and historical notes. The first twelve chapters are titled: 1. Columbus and The Indians 2. Black and White 3. Who Were The Colonists 4. Tyranny is Tyranny 5. Revolutions 6.The Women of Early America 7. As Long as Grass Grows or Water Runs 8. War with Mexico 9. Slavery and Emancipation 10. The Other Civil War 11. Robber Barons and Rebels 12. The American Empire
