Experiencia de clase

In this multi-day 8-week course students will learn the steps involved starting a clothing line beginning with design through retail and shipping. By the end of this course, students will have the tools to start their very own clothing line. Students will begin with learning the fundamentals of designing a collection and sourcing fabric and notions for their line all the way through shipping their items out. Students will learn to properly complete the necessary steps to demonstrate understanding of the steps required to start their very own clothing line. There will be homework that can take a few minutes or a few hours to complete throughout the week. Students should post notes of progress and findings and ask questions in classroom where I will answer and interact with them. Students need only have writing utensil, eraser, paper, and printouts for class when necessary. Students will create a clothing collection using various visual tools. Students may opt to sketch and color their designs, use materials from around their house and wardrobe, use sample fabrics from the sewing supply store, second hand stores etc. Student may choose any option or choice they come up with to clearly show their peers their collection. Students will post pictures in the classroom and I will give feedback on various aspects of students choice of materials, design, etc.

This will be a lecture style class where the student is expected to take necessary notes ask questions, participate in class discussion, create sketches and collections on paper using graphite and colored pencils to demonstrate to the best of their ability their collection ideas. Students do not need to have any prior knowledge of this topic to take this course. I will provide all course materials for this class.

While it is not a requirement, it would be helpful if students visited a fabric store a few times throughout the course to help with their product designs to better understand the feel and drape of their fabric choices.

Please note, students will be given class time to conduct research and work on their clothing line whenever possible so that I can walk with them in real time and help guide them in their research and work.
