Experiencia de clase

This is a step-by-step class on how to make your first movie. Each class will cover
a different part of the filmmaking process, taught by a professional filmmaker who has worked
for companies like HBO, Netflix, and Universal.

The teacher will use his own feature film“Where’s Rose” to illustrate each part of the process. In this course, the student will learn about the various positions on a film crew and what each job entails!

***"Where is Rose" is not rated but does have some mature topics. Parents would be advised to watch the movie first or with their teens.

Week of 4/17/23: “The Idea” Every film starts with a single idea that will grow into a fully formed
concept and eventually a finished script. This class will cover how to take your million-dollar
idea and turn it into a screenplay.

Week of 4/24/23:“The Outline” In this class, we will discuss our ideas for a script and start working
on fleshing out that idea into a properly formatted outline.

Week of 5/1/23: “The Screenplay” In this class, we will learn how to properly format a script. We
will look at the screenplay for “Where’s Rose” and talk about the process of writing it.

Week of 5/8/23:“The Screenplay Part 2” In this class we will discuss the script in more detail and
break down a few scenes from the Where’s Rose screenplay. The Students will learn about the
3-act structure and why it is so important.

Week of 5/15/23: “Casting” In this class, the students will learn how to cast their films. The teacher
will walk them through the casting process on Where’s Rose.

Week of 5/22/23: “Location Scouting” Ever wonder how filmmakers find the perfect location for a
movie or show you love? In this class, the students will learn all about the process of finding
and locking locations.

Week of 5/29/23:: “Action!” You’ve cast your movie, and now you are ready to shoot! In this class,
the teacher will walk you through the first day on set as a director from start to finish. We will
look at behind-the-scenes footage from Where’s Rose.

Week of 6/5/23: “Cameras and Lights” In this class, we will talk about cinematographers and
how they use the camera to help tell your story. We also go over the role of the gaffer and how
they use light to help tell your story. We will look at behind-the-scenes footage from Where’s
Rose.

Week of 6/12/23: “Production Design” In this class we will do an in-depth study on production
design and learn how the PD helps bring the director's vision to life. We will look at Where’s
Rose for examples of the PD’s work.

Week of 6/19/23:“Working with Actors” In this class, you will learn how to work with actors. The
teacher will talk about his experience working with Hollywood actors on his film Where’s Rose.
Class Eleven: “Picture Editing” Your film has been shot, now it’s time to go finish your film in
post-production! In this class, we will talk in-depth about film editing and what the editor's job is
in a movie. The teacher will use his film Where’s Rose to show examples of how the editor
brought his film to life.

Week of 6/26/23: “Sound Editing” In this class, we will learn all about the magic of sound editing
and how sound helps create a fully polished and complete film. Sound is often the most
undervalued part of the filmmaking process but without it the film would lose most of its impact
on the viewer!

Week of 7/3/23: “Soundtrack” In this class we will learn all about the film composers' job and
how they bring emotion through their music to the film. We will look at Where’s Rose for
examples of how the music helps bring the movie to life.

***This is a group class. If there is only one student I will still teach the class, however, the class will only be 30 min long and after 2 weeks if there are no more students in the class I will ask the parent if they are able to switch to private tutoring or to another group class with higher enrollment. Thank you for your support and understanding. :) - Teacher John
