Experiencia de clase

Have you ever tried to draw someone's face but it just didn't look quite right? Drawing faces can be difficult, but this course will build your confidence in your ability to draw any portrait!
Each week we will draw a different face. Students will be provided with a black and white photo that they can print, which will show half of a portrait, and we will complete the other half together. The faces in the reference photos are ethnically, racially, and culturally diverse, which will give students the opportunity to broaden their skills in order to draw people from all over the world. The objective of this course is for students to build on an understanding of basic facial proportions, as well as learn to identify and draw different variations of facial features. We will be discussing lighting, shadows, bone structure, and shapes to complete a realistic portrait. I will be drawing right along with my students, and they are free to ask questions or share throughout the class. Of course, perfection is not required, and I constantly remind my students that we only improve with practice. It will be so exciting to see how my students become more confident in their drawing skills with each week that goes by!

Here is a schedule of what which face we will be drawing each week. This corresponds to a chart I have attached in the materials section, where you can see the first ten faces we will be drawing.

Week of January 9th: Face 10
Week of January 16th: Face 11
Week of January 23rd: Face 12
Week of January 30th: Face 13
Week of February 6th: Face 14
Week of February 13th: Face 15

Each student needs a pencil, eraser, a ruler or straight edge, and a printed picture of the face we will be completing that week. (I will attach this file to the classroom page each week.) If your learner will be completing the drawing on the same piece of paper on which the picture is printed, please print on blank paper. They also have the option of cutting out the photo of the face and taping it to sketch paper, leaving room to draw the other side of the face. If they choose to do this, please make sure this is done before class.

I am a professional artist, specializing in oil portrait paintings, and I am excited to teach this class! I believe that art is about self-expression and learning, and I hope to create a fun, interactive environment where students can develop a love for art while building their confidence in a new skill.

I am a professional artist, specializing in oil portrait paintings, and I have had the privilege of displaying my artwork in venues across the country. I believe that art is about self expression and learning, and I hope to create a fun, interactive environment where students can develop a love for art while building their confidence in a new skill.
I have always struggled with expecting “perfection” of myself, especially in my art, so I am constantly reminding my students, as well as myself, that perfection is not required, and that practice, not unreasonable expectations, is what a advances our skills.
My joy in teaching comes from the comments of my students and their parents, expressing that they created something they didn’t know was possible.
