Homesteading and Sustainable Living from farm animals to Gardening. Farm Animals: Join us on this first half of sustainable living course; Farm Animals. Designed for beginners and those with some experience in raising and caring for farm animals, this course provides comprehensive knowledge and practical skills in homesteading. Learn the art of chick incubation, the essentials of raising chickens, turkeys, ducks, goats, sheep, cows, and horses, and gain insights into the benefits of a natural lifestyle. Discover the joy of connecting with nature, fostering self-reliance, and creating a thriving homestead. This is a Sample schedule: Week of Sept 25 th - Chickens and Incubations Week of Oct 1st. and 8th - Turkeys, Ducks & Geese Week of October 15th 22nd - Goats Week of October 29th - Cows Week of November 5th - Cows Week of November 19th and 26th Horses Here's a sample of what we will be learning: *Chick Incubation: Learn about the process of hatching chicks from eggs, including incubation techniques, temperature control, and ensuring a safe and nurturing environment for the developing chicks. *Chickens: Explore the wonderful world of chickens, from selecting the right breed for your homestead to understanding their dietary needs, coop construction, egg production, and disease prevention. *Turkeys: Discover the unique characteristics of turkeys, their housing requirements, feeding habits, and breeding techniques. Gain insights into raising turkeys for meat or as pets and explore the various turkey breeds available. *Ducks: Dive into the basics of duck farming, including duckling care, duck housing and fencing, nutrition, and health management. Learn about the different duck breeds and their specific needs. *Goats: Get to know goats and their importance in homesteading. Learn about goat breeds, proper housing, feeding, milking, and health monitoring. Explore the different uses of goats, such as meat, milk, and fiber production. *Sheep: Discover the world of sheep farming, including selecting the right sheep breed, pasture management, feeding, shearing, and lambing. Understand the various wool and meat production techniques. *Cows: Learn about raising cows for milk, meat, or both. Explore different cattle breeds, grazing techniques, proper nutrition, and health management. Gain insights into the milking process and the basics of dairy cow management. *Horses: Delve into the world of horses and their role in homesteading. Learn about horse care, feeding, grooming, basic training techniques, and health management. Understand the different horse breeds and their specific uses. Part 2 Junior Horticulture Explorers: Embark on an exciting journey into the world of plants and sustainable gardening practices with our Junior Horticulture Explorers program. In the second semester of this year-long course, students will delve into the art and science of horticulture, learning to cultivate, nurture, and appreciate the beauty and benefits of plants. From gardening techniques to environmental stewardship, this hands-on experience will inspire a lifelong love for horticulture and sustainable living.
