In this camp, campers will be able to celebrate all their favourite holidays in one week through a variety of games and art activities. I am an experienced elementary school teacher and summer camp leader, eager to help campers make fun memories.

Below is a detailed breakdown of what campers will be doing each day:

Day 1 - Christmas
The first day will be all about Christmas! We will create an ornament, make a snow globe, tell wacky versions of classic Christmas stories, and solve brain teasers about different Christmas carols.

Day 2 - Halloween
The second day will be focused on Halloween. We will build and design our own haunted house, act out spooky fun charades, tell slightly spooky stories around a virtual campfire, write storybooks based on a classic Halloween poem, and make a pumpkin lantern.

Day 3 - Easter
On the third day, we will celebrate Easter. We will play a digital version of an Easter egg hunt, paint a magic watercolour egg, dye a galaxy-themed Easter egg, make a huggable bunny and play guess how many with classic Easter candy.

Day 4 - Birthday
On the fourth day of camp, it’s everyone’s birthday! We will design birthday cupcakes out of clay, make no bake birthday treats we can eat, participate in a birthday gift themed scavenger hunt, design birthday pop-up cards, and play a birthday gift Pictionary game. At the end of the camp, each camper will receive a certificate recognizing their unique strengths.

Hello OutSchool families! My name is Chelsey and I am an enthusiastic, and creative elementary school teacher, youth theatre director and summer camp leader. I hold a degree from the University of British Columbia in English and Theatre, and another degree in Elementary Education
with a focus in Indigenous Education from the same university.

Here on OutSchool, I teach performing arts related classes, classes that incorporate academic curriculum but in engaging and creative ways, and arts-based classes. My classes incorporate such things as visual arts, drama, STEM projects, games, experiments, and challenges. They are highly interactive and hands-on.

In all of my teaching experiences, my first priority is to focus on the social-emotional well-being of my students, making sure to build strong relationships and a sense of community where they can feel not only comfortable to be themselves but also highly valued, just as they are. I strongly believe that children and youth learn best through exploration, creativity, and opportunities to engage their curiosity. Most of all, learning should be fun and focus mostly on learner-centred experiences that are hands-on and open-ended, rather than a more teacher-centred approach. This helps develop a life-long love of learning that I believe is vital for all of us.

I have years of experience leading children in camps related to visual arts, performing arts, and nature - three things that are personal passions of mine. In addition, I have taught children's drama classes for years and even directed children and youth in four (and counting!) full length theatre productions. This is my seventh year teaching elementary school and I truly love it. I have taught all grades between Grade 3 and Grade 7. I also spent a year teaching in a mostly online environment due to Covid concerns and this helped me learn how to maintain my teaching values in an online environment. My favourite thing about being a teacher is getting to know the unique personalities of each of my students, and nurturing their strengths and abilities. I truly believe that all children have special gifts they are just waiting to share.

I can't wait to connect with you!
