Labor Day is an annual celebration of workers and their achievements. In this class, we will examine the roots of the holiday. We will take a look at how rights for workers evolved: how the 40 work week came about, when the minimum wage was established, child labor laws, and how unions helped establish workers rights. We will look at when the holiday was first observed and how it became a federal holiday. We will also take a look at similar holidays around the world and how they are celebrated there.
