The History Herald: The True Story of Thanksgiving- The Wampanoag and English! Extra! Extra! Learn All About It! In this one day course, students will go back in time and explore the true story of Thanksgiving. Come learn about the Wampanoag Native Americans, the English Puritans, and the history behind Thanksgiving. We will work together through discussion and activities to explore what really happened back in the early 1600's when English Colonists came to the land that was inhabited by the Wampanoag people. How did they become allies? What is the Treaty of Friendship? What food did they eat? How long did the celebration last? These are just a few of the questions that will be unearthed on this historic adventure. The class utilizes a multi-perspective platform to incorporate the views and ideas of both major people groups involved. We will listen to short stories, connect to historical documents, and bring them all together to have a more complete and accurate picture of this known holiday. We will also use the truths of the past to connect it to traditions that are often done today. So come join us as we travel back to the past and learn about The True Story of Thanksgiving!

I have been challenging and elevating students for over 10 years to delve deeply into the issues of our past and wrestle with the realities of our present and future. Each conversation will be open and honest but guided with the necessary care for students of this age. I believe it is our job as educators to not teach children what to think- but how to think and allow them to unearth the truths that are often hidden within the words of pages.
