History Heralds: The True Origins of St. Patrick's Day- Traditions & Holidays Extra! Extra! Learn All About It! In this one time course, students will travel back to Ireland to explore the history of St. Patrick's Day and its ancients origins. Come journey with us as we travel back to explore the ancient origins of St. Patrick's Day. Surrounded by myth and folklore, students will learn about the man named Patrick born at the end of the 4th century who was kidnapped by Irish raiders and sold to Celtic people in Northern Ireland. Students will learn about the Ancient Celts and Druids who lived during this period. We will then follow Patrick as he escapes Ireland but eventually returns as a missionary for the church. We will also explore some of the myths about Patrick such as banishing snakes from Ireland, the inclusion of Leprechauns into the holiday based off Celtic Fairies and the importance of the Shamrock in Celtic tradition. This is a non-religious class, however, it does explore multiple religious traditions (Celtic, Roman, and Christian). Each one will be presented in an objective way to instruct the student on the history of the persona and myths involve. Through class discussion, presentation, and collaborative interaction, students will trace the historical background of the holiday. All of the above points will be addressed, and students will leave class with a thorough understanding of the historical events and traditions of the modern St. Patrick's Day holiday. This is a non-religious class. Its objective is to trace the historical past of the current holiday celebrated around the world and highlight historical trends and themes. This class will help your child trace the historical origins of the holiday and traditions and connect them to present traditions celebrated around the world. Students will hone their historical analysis capabilities through discussion and lecture. Class will be interactive with lots of discussion and group collaboration, an activity, and a presentation. This is a beginner class, so no prior knowledge is needed. Come join us for a journey back in time as we learn about the true history of St. Patrick's Day, and how it became a leprechaun and green filled celebration.

Students will improve their understanding of history, ancient civilizations, and the development of the holiday of St. Patrick's Day and its traditions that have developed overtime. Students will also work on their communication and critical thinking skills.

For the past decade, I have been encouraging students through education and personal development to explore the challenges of the past. Through my own personal education and professional development, I create a safe environment for students to learn about challenging topics of the past. My undergraduate is in history, focusing on United States and European integration of world cultures. My first master's degree is in education with a focus on English/Language Arts and global history while teaching middle and high school. My second master's degree is in history with a focus on world empires and cultures and United States/Europe during the premodern era and modern era. I am currently pursuing my PhD in history focusing on immigration and relations with indigenous peoples.
