This self-paced course will cover the High School NGSS Physical Science Standards in a hands-on and engaging way! Real-world problems, situations, and problem-based learning will drive student inquiry throughout this course. Students will have multiple performance assessments throughout the course in order to assess their understanding in addition to experiments. The suggested weekly schedule may include the following: Monday: Nearpod lesson with video exposure and instruction of the concept will be posted. Students will be given an assignment to complete by Friday. Some lessons will also have an experiment for students to complete. Tuesday, Wednesday, & Thursday: Students will work on their assignment and experiment on their own. They can message me for additional assistance during this time. Friday: Students turn in assignments for individual feedback and can request extra practice and resources. Teachers will respond to student questions within two days and communicate homework feedback within five days. Students will participate in engaging and interactive platforms such as Nearpod, Gimkit, and PhET simulations. Due to the fact that this is a self-paced course, students who are already taking High School Physics can enroll for additional support and practice. Homeschooled students can enroll in a complete High School Physics curriculum by completing all three parts of this self-paced course. This part of the High School Physics self-paced course may be completed in ten weeks, if one lesson is completed weekly. However, students may complete the course in less or more time depending on the pace they go through lessons!
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will practice mathematical calculations of waves, voltage, current, resistance, and magnetic fields.
Students will improve their understanding of waves, wave behavior, electricity, electrical circuits, and magnetism.

más de 10 semanasUnidad 1: Waves - Sound & Light
Lección 1:
The Electromagnetic Spectrum and Radiation
- Define the electromagnetic spectrum, and describe it in terms of frequencies and wavelengths.
- Describe and explain the differences and similarities of each section of the electromagnetic spectrum and the applications of radiation from those sections.
- Describe the behavior of electromagnetic radiation.
- Solve quantitative problems involving the behavior of electromagnetic radiation.
1 tarea
Lección 2:
Visible Light
- Explain that a prism separates visible light into its different colors.
- Rank the wavelengths of light waves that correspond to different colors of light.
- Describe how the selective absorption and reflection of frequencies of light affects the observed color of an object.
1 tarea
Lección 3:
Reflection and Refraction
- Explain reflection from mirrors, describe image formation as a consequence of reflection from mirrors, apply ray diagrams to predict and interpret image and object locations, and describe applications of mirrors.
- Explain refraction at media boundaries, predict the path of light after passing through a boundary (Snell’s law), describe the index of refraction of materials, explain total internal reflection, and describe applications of refraction and total internal reflection.
1 tarea
Lección 4:
Mirrors and Lenses/Sound and Light Waves Review
- Perform calculations based on the law of reflection and the equations for curved mirrors.
- Describe and predict image formation and magnification as a consequence of refraction through convex and concave lenses, use ray diagrams to confirm image formation, and discuss how these properties of lenses determine their applications.

Welcome to Seed and Stem Learning Center by Bailey Nelson and Kenneth Kirk!
As a prior public school teacher, Bailey experienced the positive difference that scientific inquiry can have on students. Kenneth, who received his Bachelor's of Business Degree in Economics, found a passion in educating young students the improtance of financial literacy and business education. Bailey and Ken used this inspiration to create a program that allows students to connect across the globe through quality and inclusive education.
Although students take classes virtually, they will be inspired through hands-on and real-world applications and problems. Through our engaging courses, students will develop (or enhance) their love of all subjects by connecting to real-life applications and problems.
Teachers and tutors are all vetted through a rigorous process that focuses on scientific inquiry, problem-based learning, and hands-on pedagogy. Teachers come from a variety of backgrounds including education, economics, engineering, and computer science.
Course Policies:
*Students must provide a camera check at the beginning of class to ensure safety for all learners unless verified by Outschool.
*Ongoing classes are charged on a weekly basis. Prorated refunds based on days attended during the week will not be provided. All class recordings and materials are provided if your learner misses class.
*The Outschool classroom is for learner communication. If you would like to contact the teacher of your learner, please use the teacher communication tab.
