This course (16 weeks) will cover the second semester of general high school chemistry. Students will learn chemistry with real-world applications in a fun, exciting way. I set this course up to mirror a general chemistry course using NGSS standards. This will ensure that your student has a cohesive class sequenced in a manner designed to help students make sense of the material and the reasons behind learning this subject matter. Each week will include note sheets, practice problems, and a review. I will have suggestions and examples of chemistry lab activities, but due to the format of this course, it does not include a mandatory laboratory portion. ⭐Unit 5 - Energy and Chemical Reactions Week 1 - Energy Changes in Chemical Reactions (HS-PS1-4, HS-PS1-5, and HS-PS1-6) Lesson #1 - Calculating Bond Energy Lesson #2 - Endothermic and Exothermic Calculations Week 2 - Enthalpy and Entropy(HS-PS1-4, HS-PS1-5, and HS-PS1-6) Lesson #3 - Enthalpy Lesson #4 - Entropy Unit 5 Test - Digital ⭐Unit 6 - Reaction Rates Week 3 -Calculating and Determining Reaction Rates (HS-PS1-4, HS-PS1-5, and HS-PS1-6) Lesson #5 - Calculating Rates Lesson #6 - Factors Affecting Reaction Rates Week 4 - Collision Theory (HS-PS1-4, HS-PS1-5, and HS-PS1-6) Lesson #7 - Collision Theory Lesson #8 - Interpreting Data Week 5 - Catalysts (HS-PS1-4, HS-PS1-5, and HS-PS1-6) Lesson #9 - Catalysts Lesson #10 - Catalysts and Application Week 6 - Chemical Equilibrium (HS-PS1-4, HS-PS1-5, and HS-PS1-6) Lesson #11 - Reversible Reactions Lesson #12 - Factors Affecting Equilibrium and Calculations Week 7 - Acids (HS-PS1-1) Lesson #13 - Introducing Acids and pH Lesson #14 -Strong Acids and pH Calculations Week 8 - Bases (HS-PS1-!) Metas de aprendizaje
As stated by the NGSS:
⭐HS-PS1-1: Use the periodic table as a model to predict the relative properties of elements based on the patterns of electrons in the outermost energy level of atoms.
⭐HS-PS1-2: Construct and revise an explanation for the outcome of a simple chemical reaction based on the outermost electron states of atoms, trends in the periodic table, and knowledge of the patterns of chemical properties.
⭐HS-PS1-4: Develop a model to illustrate that the release or absorption of energy from a chemical reaction system depends upon the changes in total bond energy.
⭐HS-PS1-5: Apply scientific principles and evidence to provide an explanation about the effects of changing the temperature or concentration of the reacting particles on the rate at which a reaction occurs.
⭐HS-PS1-6: Refine the design of a chemical system by specifying a change in conditions that would produce increased amounts of products at equilibrium.
⭐HS-PS1-7: Use mathematical representations to support the claim that atoms, and therefore mass, are conserved during a chemical reaction.
⭐HS-PS1-8: Develop models to illustrate the changes in the composition of the nucleus of the atom and the energy released during the processes of fission, fusion, and radioactive decay.
⭐HS-PS2-6: Investigating or designing new systems or structures requires a detailed examination of the properties of different materials, the structures of different components, and connections of components to reveal their function and/or solve a problem.

Orientación para padres
**Any lab activities conducted at home are under the student and family's responsibility since there is no lab portion to this class.**
While we discuss specific substances and the chemistry behind them, stringent laboratory safety guidelines need to be followed, which is impossible in this environment.
