Are you ready to dive into the world of stories, ideas, and imagination? In this reading class, we’ll explore the power of literature and how it can open doors to new perspectives, deepen critical thinking, and spark creativity. 

In this class, we will explore Hatchet, Gary Paulsen’s gripping novel of survival, resilience, and self-discovery. The story follows 13-year-old Brian Robeson, who finds himself stranded in the Canadian wilderness after a plane crash. With nothing but his wits and a hatchet, Brian must learn to adapt, face his fears, and come to terms with his inner struggles. As we analyze the novel, and through discussion, journaling, quizzes, writing, and various activities, students will deepen their understanding of character development, plot, setting, inferences, vocabulary and so much more!

After you enroll in the course, I will send you the packet that we will use throughout the class. This will give you time to print it off so it is ready to go when class starts. Please have packet, book and pencil ready at the beginning of each class. 

Throughout the course, students will:

By the end of the course, students will have enhanced their reading abilities, developed a deeper appreciation for literature, and gained confidence in expressing their ideas. 

 This course employs a range of strategies, such as graphic organizers, questioning techniques and close reading practices, to build comprehension, vocaulary, and critial thinking skills. This course aims to increase reading proficiency, improve academic performance, and foster a greater love for reading.  This is a great class for homeschool and public school students. As well as any child who loves to read!
