Nivel Beginner
This class will help students develop confidence in their handwriting skills and alphabet knowledge. Through modeling, songs, and hands-on and developmentally appropriate activities, students will enjoy learning to write lowercase letters! The students will feel successful with my child-friendly words and step-by-step models to learn the strokes, correct placement, and correct orientation of each letter.
Students will be introduced to the lowercase letters of the day and we will discuss the strokes of the letters. Students will use play dough to form the letter first, and then move to tracing and writing the letters on given worksheet with pencil, crayon, or marker. With repetition and language used for the strokes, correct letter formation will become automatic over time.

In this ongoing class, students will learn two letters a day, with four worksheets each day. If you are unable to print the handouts, you can recreate them using markers or highlighters. The star is very important so please use a dark colored marker to draw the star, and a light colored marker to write the letter.

Lowercase letters are more challenging than capital letters. Students taking this class should already know how to hold a writing utensil. If your child does not write capital letters independently, please check out my "Happy Handwriting: Roll-A-Letter, Write-A-Letter: Capital Letters" class where we focus on pencil grip and forming CAPITAL letters. I highly recommend taking my CAPITAL letters class before taking this class.

Class structure:
-Introductions and class expectations
-Hello song
-Discuss top, middle, bottom line
-Intro to first letter-of-the-day
-Small letter or tall letter?
-Roll-a-letter
-Discuss where to begin writing a letter
-Tracing and writing letter on given hand-out
-Intro to second letter-of-the-day
-Small or tall letter?
-Roll-a-letter
-Discuss where to begin writing a letter
-Tracing and writing letter on given hand-out
-Goodbye song

This is an on-going class that you can jump in at any time. Every class will have the same structure. To complete the alphabet will take 12 weeks. If you want to continue to make sure your child learns every letter, they will need to be subscribed for 12 weeks.

Schedule: Week of:
Sept. 4: Letters: v and w
Sept. 11: s and t
Sept. 18: c and o
Sept. 25: a and d
Oct. 2: g and q
Oct. 9: u and i
Oct. 16: l and k
Oct. 23: r and h
Oct. 30: n and m
Nov. 6: y and j
Nov. 13: p and b
Nov. 20: f and x
Nov. 27: z and e

The cycle of these letters with continue in this order.

Your student will hear the same introductions and language used every class even if they began the first lesson because repetition is key in handwriting. Every class will be a little different in that every class will have two new letters. The discussion of letter L will be very different than the discussion of letter B.

If class time allows, we will discuss the letter's sounds and objects that begin with the letters of the day.
I look forward to meeting your child and helping them develop their handwriting skills!

Otros detalles

Lista de útiles escolares
-At least 1 cup of any color play dough
-plastic sheet protectors with the 2 "play dough" worksheets (that I will be providing) inside. If you do not have access to a printer, you can easily create the worksheet I will be including.
-writing utensil of students choice. A pencil is encouraged but crayon/marker also works
-I will also be providing 2 worksheets to practice tracing and writing the letter. Again, if you do not have access to a printer, you can easily create it by copying what I made OR your child can practice writing the letters on a blank sheet of paper. Either will work perfectly fine. My worksheets will just have a guide as to where to start the letter, and some practice letters to trace.

I have taught Pre-k for 8 years and used a wonderful handwriting curriculum that I found to be very effective in teaching the basics of handwriting. I have tweaked this curriculum to be geared toward online learning and for easy at home practice!
