In this class I will read Room on the Broom by Julia Donaldson which will then be followed by a discussion of the characters in the book. We will talk about rhyming, do exercises to strengthen their understanding of rhyming and give them the opportunity to show off their rhyming skills. We will learn what an onomatopoeia is from the story as well as go through other examples from outside of the book. We will also analyze what the characters are feeling based on their facial expressions and other clues from the story. Finally, we will finish with a color and cut worksheet that I will provide to you for the class!
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will be able to strengthen their rhyming abilities. They will become detectives reading the facial expressions and words the characters use in order to understand what those characters may be feeling. The kids will be introduced to what an onomatopoeia is and be able to name words that fall into this category. They will be given the creative freedom to color characters from the story in whatever way they like and practice their scissor skills.

Hi! I love to teach classes that are fun and promote discussion and creativity. In all of my classes I mix critical thinking with out of the box thinking so that the kids learn something brand new! I find the best way to do this is by using books, video games, trivia and other interactive components to keep them engaged and wanting to learn.
My passion for critical thought stems from my degree in Philosophy. The integration of pop culture in my classes is rooted in a lifetime of toy collecting, video game playing, and during my time as a staff writer for an online comic book review site. Over the past five years I have created community-based, pop-up craft classes for parents and children that integrate culture and thought, and I am excited about the opportunity to share these types of activities with my students!
Outside of teaching I enjoy spending time with my husband, son, two cats and puppy! I love online gaming and spending a lot of time crafting.
