What is a Habitat?
Introduction - What is a habitat? We will define a habitat, talk about our favorites and what we want to learn more about in this class. We will talk about the factors that shape our habitats and why animals might need to adapt. We will play a game about animals and which habitat they might live in.

The Wetlands - Swamps, Bogs, and Marshes
We will read "The Wetlands" written by Pamela Williams. We will look at the animals that live in this habitat. We will look at a beaver's dam. How does it hold the water back? We will look at it's layers and how it works. We will do a crossword puzzle.
 Week 3
Lesson 3
The Coral Reef
We will read "The Coral Reef" written by Pamela Williams. We will look at the animals that live in this habitat. We will look at the differences and similarities between hard and soft coral. Our game will be Coral Reef Jeopardy.

The Open Ocean
We will read "The Open Ocean" written by Pamela Williams. We will look at the animals that live in this habitat. We will look at the different layers of the ocean and talk about the animals that live in each.
 Week 5
Lesson 5
The Mountains
We will read "The Mountains" written by Pamela Williams. We will look at the animals that live in this habitat. We will play a Mountain Cooperative Board Game.

The Desert
Desert - We will read "The Desert" written by Pamela Williams. We will look at the animals that live in this habitat. We will play a memory game looking at a variety of cactus.

Standing Waters - Lakes and Ponds
We will read "Lakes and Ponds" written by Pamela Williams. We will look at the animals that live in this habitat. We will do a directed drawing of a frog and talk about the differences between frogs and toads.

The Savanna
We will read "The Savanna" by Pamela Williams. We will look at the animals that live in this habitat. Our game will be matching footprints to the animal.

The Woodlands
We will read "The Woodlands" written by Pamela Williams. We will look at the animals that live in this habitat. We will dissect an owl pellet to see what is inside.

Moving Waters - Streams and Rivers
We will read "Moving Waters" written by Pamela Williams. We will look at the animals that live in this habitat. We will do a little science experiment and play a "What Absorbs?" game.

The Tropical Rainforest
We will read "The Tropical Rainforests" written by Pamela Williams. We will look at the animals that live in this habitat. We will look at the different levels of the rainforest canopy. 
 Week 12

The Grasslands
We will read "The Grasslands" written by Pamela Williams. We will look at the animals that live in this habitat. Our game will be a crossword puzzle to solve.

The Hydrothermal Vents
We will read "Hydrothermal Vents" written by Pamela Williams. We will look at the animals that live in this habitat. Our game will be creating new words using the letters in "Hydrothermal Vents"

We will read "Estuaries" written by Pamela Williams. We will look at the animals that live in this habitat. We will play a simulation Estuary game. We will also do an experiment to see how salt water and fresh water come together.
