In this 40-minute, sixteeen week course with Ms. Pamela, we will look at a DIFFERENT TYPE of HABITAT every week. Each class will include: * A specific habitat - what does it look like? What is the weather there? What sets it apart from other habitats? How is it similar or different from others? *We will read a book about that habitat written by myself. *We will create a CAN, HAVE, and ARE chart *We will look at several animals that live in that habitat - What makes this habitat best for...

Week 1Lesson 1What is a Habitat?Introduction - What is a habitat? We will define a habitat, talk about our favorites and what we want to learn more about in this class. We will talk about the factors that shape our habitats and why animals might need to adapt. We will play a game about animals and which habitat they might live in.Week 2Lesson 2The Wetlands - Swamps, Bogs, and MarshesWe will read "The Wetlands" written by Pamela Williams. We will look at the animals that live in this habitat. We will look at a beaver's dam. How does it hold the water back? We will look at it's layers and how it works. We will do a crossword puzzle.Week 3Lesson 3The Coral ReefWe will read "The Coral Reef" written by Pamela Williams. We will look at the animals that live in this habitat. We will look at the differences and similarities between hard and soft coral. Our game will be Coral Reef Jeopardy.Week 4Lesson 4The Open OceanWe will read "The Open Ocean" written by Pamela Williams. We will look at the animals that live in this habitat. We will look at the different layers of the ocean and talk about the animals that live in each.Week 5Lesson 5The MountainsWe will read "The Mountains" written by Pamela Williams. We will look at the animals that live in this habitat. We will play a Mountain Cooperative Board Game.Week 6Lesson 6The DesertDesert - We will read "The Desert" written by Pamela Williams. We will look at the animals that live in this habitat. We will play a memory game looking at a variety of cactus.Week 7Lesson 7Standing Waters - Lakes and PondsWe will read "Lakes and Ponds" written by Pamela Williams. We will look at the animals that live in this habitat. We will do a directed drawing of a frog and talk about the differences between frogs and toads.Week 8Lesson 8The SavannaWe will read "The Savanna" by Pamela Williams. We will look at the animals that live in this habitat. Our game will be matching footprints to the animal.Week 9Lesson 9The WoodlandsWe will read "The Woodlands" written by Pamela Williams. We will look at the animals that live in this habitat. We will dissect an owl pellet to see what is inside.Week 10Lesson 10Moving Waters - Streams and RiversWe will read "Moving Waters" written by Pamela Williams. We will look at the animals that live in this habitat. We will do a little science experiment and play a "What Absorbs?" game.Week 11Lesson 11The Tropical RainforestWe will read "The Tropical Rainforests" written by Pamela Williams. We will look at the animals that live in this habitat. We will look at the different levels of the rainforest canopy.Week 12Lesson 12The GrasslandsWe will read "The Grasslands" written by Pamela Williams. We will look at the animals that live in this habitat. Our game will be a crossword puzzle to solve.Week 13Lesson 13The Hydrothermal VentsWe will read "Hydrothermal Vents" written by Pamela Williams. We will look at the animals that live in this habitat. Our game will be creating new words using the letters in "Hydrothermal Vents"Week 14Lesson 14The Estuary or Brackish WatersWe will read "Estuaries" written by Pamela Williams. We will look at the animals that live in this habitat. We will play a simulation Estuary game. We will also do an experiment to see how salt water and fresh water come together.Week 15Lesson 15The TundraWe will read "The Tundra" written by Pamela Williams. We will look at the animals that live in this habitat. Our game will be to unscramble the animal names.Week 16Lesson 16The CoastlineWe will read "The Coastline" written by Pamela Williams. We will look at the animals that live in this habitat. We will play find the crabs using sight words.
