I will never forget the first time I stood on the sand along the coast of Normandy, France. Every time I return to the beaches, I wish that I could bring more people to experience the location first-hand. I have had the great fortune of having met with many of the heroes of D-Day and stood alongside them on those French beaches. This class provides an overview of the planning and execution of the largest land and air attack in history. Throughout the time I encourage learners to ask questions and discuss what it was like on that day for both the members of the Allied forces and for civilians. The class will be a combination of facts from history, a visual presentation, and personal anecdotes from my time spent in the Normandy region of France. References to the movie, "The Longest Day," are made in the class. I welcome students to bring questions to class for discussion.

I have taught World History for over 15 years. I was the lead history teacher for my school and I've written numerous history curriculum guides. The expertise on this subject comes from the many trips I have taken to the Normandy coast of France. I have walked along the white crosses in the American cemetery and stood in the German bunkers.
