The age range is only a guide. *** You do NOT have to complete any other classes to take this class. Each class we will begin with a phonics lesson. The phonics lessons will start at a beginning of 1st grade level and move through mid-grade level. We will read a decodable book that emphasizes the taught phonics skill. At times we will read guided reading leveled readers from levels, D, E, F, G. We will also, reread previous texts, learn and review sight words (focusing on sounding out the words), discuss comprehension questions, complete word study activities (phonics skills and syllable types), and engage in guided writing. Learners will also read to the group, answer questions, and engage in group discussions. *** Learners that enroll for additional sections will receive new content. This class can run for a full year or as needed. Please contact teacher to arrange. Class starting December 3rd: Week 1: Review short vowel sounds (all) Week 2: FLSZ Spelling Rule (ff, ll, ss, zz) Week 3: -all, -oll, -ull Week 4: ck spelling for /k/ Class Starting January 14th: Week 1: sh /sh/ Week 2: voiced and unvoiced /th/ Week 3: -ch /ch/ Week 4: wh /w/, ph /f/ Guided reading is small-group differentiated instruction that supports students in developing reading proficiency. The small-group allows teachers to target specific learning needs, provide appropriate scaffolding, and gradually reduce support to promote independence. This class is a great supplement to your existing reading program (end of Kindergarten- mid 1st grade reading levels).
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will improve in reading phonics, sight words, and fluency.
