Experiencia de clase

Please note: If you are currently enrolled in my ongoing class for growth mindset you can certainly enjoy this camp as it will be a bit more in-depth content that is not experienced in the same way for my ongoing course. I offer this same camp for 7-9-year-olds and 10-11 year olds. Select the age group that suits your learner best.

Growth Mindset 4-Day Camp

Day 1: Introduction to Mindsets
Objective: Students will understand the concept of mindset and introduce the two mindsets: growth and fixed.

I will introduce mindsets by providing various examples and encourage class discussions to determine if they represent growth or fixed mindsets. Through examples used in class learners will begin to recognize the way our words and thoughts reflect a belief we have about our abilities. In this class, we will learn to check those beliefs for truth.

Daily Challenge: Students will be encouraged to think about a personal challenge they are currently facing and will be asked to prepare to share it at the beginning of Day 2's class. People with a strong growth mindset share their challenges with others.

Day 2: Resilience & Bouncing Back from Mistakes
Objective: Students will understand the importance of resilience and how to use mistakes and failures to learn and grow.

We will discuss the importance of resilience and how it can help us bounce back from mistakes.
Through different examples, students will practice finding lessons in mistakes/failures and how to move forward and learn from them.

Daily Challenge: Students will be encouraged to think about a specific mistake or failure they experienced and what they learned from it. They will be asked to share their reflections at the beginning of Day 3's class.

Day 3: Acknowledging and Overcoming Negative Self-Talk
Objective: Help students recognize and address negative self-talk by acknowledging its source and practicing positive self-talk to replace it.

We will discuss the presence of negative self-talk and how it is often rooted in fear that once could have been helpful.
Students will learn to expect negative self-talk when facing new challenges and how to counter it with truth and positive self-talk.

Examples:
Negative self-talk– “I won’t be able to ride this bike.”
Positive shift- “It’s ok to be scared but we are safe and can do this.”

Negative self-talk- “If you wear that your friends will make fun of you.”
Positive shift- “I like my unique outfit and am ok if my friends don’t like it.”

Daily Challenge: Think of an example of some negative self-talk you can prepare for ahead of time. Practice your script and be prepared to share it with the class

Also, start thinking of some mini-goals you can set or things you want to accomplish after this class.

Day 4: Future Challenges & Goal Setting
Objective: Students will learn how to set process-oriented goals.

We will discuss how to set process-oriented goals and explain their importance.
Students will be guided in setting mini-goals focused on the process, emphasizing specific actions and timelines. Students will be encouraged to discuss some goals they have in mind.

After class students will be provided with goal-setting worksheets to complete, helping them plan and set goals for the summer.

In each class we will warm up with a fun would you rather question. Students will then be led to discuss the challenge from the day before (sharing is always optional but encouraged). We will then introduce the objective for the day's lesson. At the end of each class, the students will be encouraged to think of something related to the lesson from that day to share for the discussion the following day.

Each day students will be given extension activities and handout(s) to practice the daily objective. I will post these at the end of class each day along with a short write-up on what was discussed with some ways that grown-ups can support their child’s learning.
