Experiencia de clase

Taught by a teacher with an MA in Jewish Studies, this beginner's level course is a fun INTRODUCTION to READING Hebrew!!

We will complete a quick review of the Hebrew alphabet, including final forms and phonemes, and will expect to complete the first two chapters of our textbook. These chapters cover reading five of the most commonly used letters in the Hebrew alphabet, Shin, Bet, Tav, Dalet and Gimmel.

If your student is NOT AT ALL familiar with the Hebrew alphabet, please have them begin with my ongoing weekly "Learn the Hebrew Alphabet" classes, or with one-on-one tutoring with me. Students may find it helpful to join one of my ongoing weekly "Learn the Hebrew Alphabet" classes WHILE taking this class, for extra practice reviewing Hebrew letters.

This class focuses on READING, but touches on writing Hebrew letters in Block Print. If possible, please plan to sign up your student for my Hebrew Block Print class before, during, or after taking this class. If your students wants to learn to read Hebrew, it helps to know how to write it!

***This class uses a textbook that costs less than $20 USD. Your student will need to bring to the class on the first day (or, if this is not possible, by the second day at the latest.)***

Although this class takes a relaxed approach, we will cover a lot of material in each class. Students should plan to attend EVERY week, and allow at least 30 minutes/week for homework!

**In order to facilitate discussion, students should expect to keep their screens on. Students should also be prepared to share their work with, and respectfully listen to, their teacher and their fellow students. Thank you!**

Week One: Quick review of the first half of the Hebrew alphabet, including including final forms and phonemes
Week Two: Quick review of the second half of the Hebrew alphabet, and begin the first chapter of our text book
(including the letters Shin, Bet, Tav)
Week Three: Continue in Chapter One of text book
Week Four: Finish Chapter One of text book, preview Chapter Two (letters Dalet and Gimmel)
Week Five: Review letters, vowels and keywords from Chapter One, begin Chapter Two
Week Five: Review previous letters, vowels and keywords, continue Chapter Two
Week Six: Review previous letters, vowels and keywords, finish Chapter Two, preview Chapter Three (Aleph and Mem)

Perfil
Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
I have an MA in Jewish Studies from the University of Indiana-Bloomington, and have completed several other academic Jewish Studies and Religious Studies classes, at the graduate level. This includes more than two years of Biblical Hebrew, as well as several classes in Modern Hebrew.

As a former Hebrew school teacher and a current Outschool teacher, I have helped hundreds of students develop and improve their Hebrew reading skills, starting with the Hebrew alphabet. I am not a native speaker of Modern Hebrew, and am not able to teach advanced Hebrew grammar, which will not be covered in this course.
