Class Description for the "Gross Science Read-Alouds: Boost Reading Comprehension with Fun, Gross Books" Club

Welcome to the Gross Science Club! Prepare to embark on an exciting adventure into the wonderfully weird and wildly gross world of science. In this interactive and engaging club, students will dive into a variety of gross science read-alouds that will not only tickle their funny bones but also boost their reading comprehension skills.

What Will Be Taught?

Throughout this unit, students will learn about various gross topics related to the human body, underwater creatures, and everyday science phenomena. They will enhance their reading comprehension skills by making predictions, answering questions, identifying text features, and summarizing information from the books we read.

What Topics Will You Cover?

We will cover an array of fascinating and gross topics, including:

-The human body and its icky functions
-Underwater creatures and their peculiarities
-The science behind sneezing, coughing, and other bodily functions
-The role of flies and maggots in nature
-Bad breath and oral hygiene
-Fun and gross food facts
-Engaging slime and other sensory experiments

How is Your Class Structured?

Our club will meet once a week for 45 minutes once a week over the course of 15 club sessions. Each session will include:

Read-Aloud Time: We will read one gross book together, discussing key concepts and engaging with the content.
Interactive Discussion: Students will have the opportunity to share their thoughts, predictions, and insights about the book.
Comprehension Activities: We will answer questions, play games like Kahoot, and participate in fun experiments every third week.
Reflection and Sharing: Students will reflect on what they've learned and share their findings with the class.

Once session 15 is complete we will begin the sessions all over again with some adjustments to fit the club's needs.

How Will You Teach?

My teaching approach combines direct instruction with hands-on learning experiences. During read-alouds, I will model effective reading strategies and encourage students to think critically about the text. Students will participate in group discussions, engage in fun games, and conduct hands-on experiments that bring the gross science topics to life.

What's Your Teaching Style?

My teaching style is dynamic, interactive, and student-centered. I thrive on creating an engaging environment where students feel comfortable sharing their thoughts and asking questions. I aim to make learning fun by incorporating humor and creativity into lessons, ensuring students are excited about their learning journey.

How Much Will Learners Get to Interact With You?

Interaction is key to our learning experience! Here's how students will engage with me and each other:

Lecture: Short, engaging introductions to each book and topic to spark curiosity.
Games: Kahoot quizzes to reinforce comprehension and make learning competitive and fun.
Slides: Visual aids with fun facts to enhance understanding and captivate attention.
Video Clips: Short clips featuring gross science phenomena to illustrate concepts in an entertaining way.
Discussion: Open discussions where students can share their ideas, ask questions, and learn from each other.
Hands-On Experiments: Every third week, students will participate in slime and science experiments, making the concepts tangible and memorable.

Through this engaging and interactive format, students will not only learn about gross science but also develop their reading skills and have a blast while doing it! I can't wait to see the excitement and creativity your learners will bring to the Gross Science Club!

Let me know if you need any changes or additional information!
