Are you interested in wrapping up in a tale of mystery and suspense set in an old inn during a Christmas snowstorm? If so, then welcome to "Greenglass House"! Meet Milo, a 12 year old boy ready to enjoy a peaceful Christmas Break with his mom and dad..... until several odd, unexpected guests arrive! Follow Milo as he tries to solve the mysterious disappearance of several items belonging to the guests, but gets pulled into a deeper mystery he would never have expected to solve! The book "Greenglass House" by Kate Milford is best for students 5th-7th grades. It is a 4th grade level U book (Lexile 800L), but there is a lot of unique vocabulary and made up lore that could make this book a little more difficult to comprehend. This is a rather long book (373 pages!), but an avid reader's dream come true! If your child loves a challenging "epic" read, this book is right up their alley! The storyline is appealing for both boys and girls in the above mentioned age ranges. Students who are a not quite ready to independently read on this level could still read this book and participate in the class, with the understanding that parents/caregivers could read aloud to or with their learner. Students will need their own copy of the book so they can do the assigned reading each week. Each class will give students the opportunity to share their "homework"- a picture they drew outside of class of their favorite part of their reading assignment and a short question or activity to get them connecting to the text. Students will then interact with a presentation with pictures, audio clips, and video clips that will help us summarize the plot, explain vocabulary, and help students see places and items from the story that will extend comprehension and improve visualization. We will engage in a fun discussion that incorporates critical thinking questions and that create authentic opportunities for students to apply their knowledge of reading standards such as: theme, character traits, cause & effect, predictions, inferences, problem & solution, and making connections. Students will be encouraged to support their thinking with specific details from the book and ask any questions they had while reading on their own. The class schedule is as follows: Week 1- Before class starts, read Chapters 1-3 (pages 1-77) on your own and be ready to discuss these pages for our first meeting. After class, read Chapters 4-5 (pages 78-131) for next week's class. Week 2- Discuss Chapters 4-5 (pages 78-131) during this week's class. After class, read Chapters 6-8 (pages 132-196) for next week's class. Week 3- Discuss Chapters Chapters 6-8 (pages 132-196) during this week's class. After class, read Chapters 9-10 (pages 197-268) for next week's class. Week 4- Discuss Chapters 9-10 (pages 197-268) during this week's class. After class, read Chapters 11-13 (pages 269-348) for next week's class. Week 5- Discuss Chapters 11-13 (pages 269-348) during this week's class. After class, read Chapters 14-15 (pages 348-373) for next week's class. Week 6- Discuss Chapters 14-15 (pages 348-373) during this week's class. *Chapter 15 is the end of the story, and we will reminisce about the whole book and share a completed special project in honor of finishing it! Come join us for this thrilling book! You won't forget Milo and the mystery he and his friend Meddy unravel in his own house- Greenglass House! *This book club will only be offered in November and December.

Orientación para padres
This book has a character that has died and the story of how they pass is quite sad (not gruesome, but learners who do not like reading about death may be bothered by the sad nature of the story). If you have any questions about the storyline, please reach out to me. I would be happy to answer you!
