When a student takes this class they can expect a fun and interactive journey through the story of how Hercules descended into the Underworld and found himself in a wrestling match with the guardian of the gates of Hades' realm, Cerberus. Class will first begin with a short meet-and-greet. Once acquainted, we will delve into a dramatic telling of some of Hercules' exploits. Images and some video will be shared to help bring the story to life and as the storyteller, my goal will be to use my theatrical and voice-artist background to make the tale memorable. Throughout, students will be encouraged to ask questions and will also be posed questions to test their listening and comprehension skills. Class sizes are kept small to ensure students are given ample opportunity to interact with the teacher and are encouraged to keep microphones on (if surroundings are quiet) so they may freely communicate. Specifically, we will learn about Hercules' journey to Athens to be intitated in the Eleusinian Mysteries, his having Hermes and Athena as guides, Hercules meeting Theseus and Pirithous in the Underworld, the background of Hades' bride Persephone, Hercules' wrestling match with Cerberus, the completion of Hercules' labors and the aftermath.
