This class will focus on graphing on the coordinate plane. Each lesson will include a slide show with examples, explanations, and a chance for students to practice what they've learned. We'll alternate working on things as a group and giving students time to try problems on their own.

I've found many students struggle a bit with the concept of the coordinate plane (X-axis and Y-axis), even when they have no trouble with other parts of algebra. (On the flip side plenty of students struggle with other aspects of algebra, but find graphing points and lines easy.)

This course is for students who need more practice, more guidance, or more review of graphing linear equations, quadratic equations and circle equations than they get in a standard algebra class.

Each week will include a few homework problems so students can try what they've learned on their own. The following week, I'll post a solution video so students can see how they did. If students have questions or other concerns, they can ask each other in the classroom or contact me for more help.

Week 1:
Linear Equations: slope-intercept form, point-slope form, inequalities, and systems.

Week 2:
Quadratic Equations: Graphing parabolas using substitution as well as by finding the vertex and roots.

Week 3:
Circle Equations: Graphing circles using points and by finding the center and radius.

 Week 4:
Exponential Functions & Inverse Functions: Graphing equations with an X value as an exponent and how to graph inverse exponential functions.

Metas de aprendizaje

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
I'm a former middle and high school teacher of math and English with 15 years of experience teaching both in person and online.

I love making topics like math and writing less scary and more fun for students. I've found that algebra is less intimidating when students have a good foundation in the basics, but that sometimes worrying about "the right way" can limit understanding. Similarly, I've found that worrying about perfection can make writing harder, especially when one of the first rules is: Writing is rewriting.

When not teaching or writing, I love reading good books, practicing martial arts, and spending time with my family which includes six cats and two ducks.
