All monsters need a good walk. At least that's what Frankie's mom says. But why walk when you can lurch, or march, or clomp, or stomp? In this lesson, learners will have fun listening to a story called Monsters Can Mosey by Gillia M. Olson. Throughout the story, students will learn about the shades of meaning for words. Shades of meaning are the differences that words with the same basic meaning have from one another. Picking just the right word makes writing and speaking clearer. We will also play an interactive shades of meaning game, where the students get to control the screen with their mouse or touch pad. Students will order the synonyms according to their shades of meaning as they follow the instructions on each card. Finally, we will make an ice cream craft using a variety of synonyms. The students will build ice cream cones by ordering the words according to their shades of meaning. This class is great for children who are just learning about shades of meaning, or to provide extra practice for learners who already know about shades of meaning. Let's start our learning today!

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
Hi! I'm Teacher Shannon! I have taught 2nd grade for 24 years. I've taught both Gifted and Regular Education. I was a substitute teacher for 2 years working with Early Childhood students as well as older elementary students. My passion is reading! I love Children's Literature and I have even co-taught college level students on "What's New In Children's LIterature?" for the last 10 years. What drives me as a teacher is to have a fun, safe, interactive classroom while embracing lots of quality literature. I want kids to love reading as much as I do and to have fun learning! And maybe make a craft or two along the way!
