Are you ready to set yourself up for success this upcoming school year? It's time to set those goals and create a vision for your year! "Setting goals is linked with self-confidence, motivation, and autonomy" (Price-Mitchel Ph.D., 2018). In this class: 1. A growth mindset means that you thrive on challenges and don't see failure as a way to describe yourself but as a springboard for growth and developing your abilities. Students will be asked to think about, and discuss, if they are comfortable, about a time they had to do something that was hard for them. They will be asked to share how they overcame the challenge and persevered. 2. Learners will define success and collaborate on what a successful high school year looks like. 3. I will present a short lesson about SMART goals. SMART goals are Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-Based. We will differentiate between long term and short-term goals, and students will learn how setting short term goals will help them achieve their long term goals. 4. Finally learners will create a vision board for the upcoming school year. This vision board is a visual representation of their goals. Vision board are great to hang in a room to act as a visual reminder of goals that have been set. This is a one-time class created for learners ages 12-18 years old. The ideal learner would be in high school or just entering high school. Method of Instruction: Slide presentation and collaborative class discussions and demonstration of creating a vision board. What will you take away? SMART Goals and your own vision board to keep you focused and motivated for the year ahead. *** If the times don't work for you, I have opened this course for auto scheduling. I am willing to add sections that meet your scheduling needs. I also have a FLEX goal setting class if your learner does better independently.

I am currently a High School Family and Consumer Science teacher. I have taught Life Skills and Adulting 101 for the past 10 years.
I have created a series of classes to help you get the most out of your high school years and prepare you for living on your own. Take one, take some, or take them all. Examples of what you can look forward to are classes on budgeting, career exploration, positive communication skills, time management and developing good study habits, coping with stress, and sewing, as well as some courses perfect for the high school senior like choosing the perfect roommate and renting your first apartment and cooking healthy meals on a budget, just to name a few. They say "Adulting is Hard" but it doesn't have to be!
