Tarea
1-2 horas por semana. Homework is optional. I give every student at least one mock SAT to practice with. I also give weekly homework with 90-120 questions for the student to practice with upon request. Upon request, I give the students more tests so they can practice with as much test material they think necessary. Just contact me. Each question should take 1 minute to solve and should be done at one's own pace. Answers are provided in the homework. I suggest people spend 30 minutes of practice at a time with the homework each day. Learners will do the homework in order to practice and ask questions for review.
Evaluación
Students can practice with a mock SAT test I provide on request. They should see if there's an improvement. Let me know where any shortcomings are so we can address them as a class.

Experiencia de clase

Nivel de inglés: desconocido
Grado de EE. UU. 8 - 11
Nivel Advanced
This is going to be essentially a 12-Week or longer SAT, PSAT, and ACT test prep class. We will cover all of the Reading Comprehension, Grammar, Algebra, Geometry, Arithmetic and Writing that is on the test. All questions will be provided by me. Students should have pens, papers, calculators, and questions to ask. I will guide each student taking the exam, give tips, and occasionally assign homework so they can practice the skills they've learned. Each class will be either an English session, a Math session, a Reading Section, a Science Section, a mix of these, or a mock timed test. We do reading/grammar/science on one day and Math on the other day. Questions will be presented on the screen in increasing difficulty and students will answer them. The teacher discusses each answer choice and addresses any concerns or gaps in knowledge the student has.

This will be a twice-a-week live video class. Recordings of previous sessions are available if your child misses one. I do offer additional tutoring upon request (rarely), but the time has to be agreed upon in advance. You can sign up for as many classes as you think you need, but how many your child will need is based on his/her learning ability and his/her current score. Typically, one session is worth an additional 50 points, so you can make a decision at your discretion. Start prepping early for the best chance at improvement! Last minute preparation is common but it doesn't work too well.

In a few weeks, you will learn everything you would learn in a much more expensive SAT or ACT bootcamp. My goal is to provide an inexpensive option for anyone who feels they can get a perfect score on these exams.

Twelve weeks is recommended but you can stay for as long or as little as you need. The Digital SAT IS covered in this class. Each week teaches a different theme of questions, whether it is a full test or just a topical lesson. You don't need to wait for the classes to begin or end as each class is designed to accommodate new learners. Every effort is taken to update the lessons so that the class offers questions as much like the test a student will take as possible. However, older questions from the paper test are used frequently since they are still compatible with the newest versions of the exam and are very instructive.
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will be taught to catch their mistakes on the SAT/ACT exam and improve their scores at least 100-400 points. They will learn how to improve their speed on the test by focusing on the content of the readings and of the math. If requested, we will also learn and practice SAT II Subject tests. These have been outmoded by the college board, but the skills are still useful for students. I will provide all tips necessary to get a perfect score, but it is up to the student to earn this. The difference between a 1400 and a 1600 (or a 28 and a 36 on the ACT) is often just four or five trivial mistakes on a few questions. Higher scores are to be expected but a 1600 cannot be guaranteed. The goal is to make the students think for themselves and use their own aptitude to find the right answers as fast as possible.

Orientación para padres
There should not be inappropriate content in the readings for the SAT and ACT as they have been chosen by the College Board and ETS Testing. Any reading in this class could potentially be on the SAT or the ACT.
Lista de útiles escolares
Pencil, paper, Calculator (though we won't use it much), Internet Access, a Large Screen with which to view the displayed test, a Microphone, and Adobe Reader or some program to open PDFs.

MICROPHONES ARE A MUST in this class. I cannot interact properly with your child and diagnose what they need unless I can speak with them. Kids who talk and participate do best in this class.

The lesson one videos, which are an additional resource if the student finds the class a little difficult, are on YouTube.

I have taught SAT/ACT/GRE test prep for 19 years and am very experienced.

Here's some recent reviews I received shared with permission of the parents:

Dear Mr. Maltz,

I am writing to express my gratitude for the SAT lessons you provided to my son, Eric. About two years ago, he enrolled in your lessons on Outschool, exclusively choosing your guidance for SAT preparation. His first SAT was the Digital SAT in November 2023, and astonishingly, he achieved a perfect score. Upon hearing the good news, the first thing he shared with me was how invaluable Dr. Maltz's lessons had been.

I sincerely appreciate your effective instruction and guidance. Your teaching has made a significant impact, and we feel fortunate to have crossed paths with such an excellent educator.

Sincerely,
Rebecca H. 11/28/23

My son scored a 1390 (720 Math, 670 English) on the paper SAT last fall, and while I think that is an awesome score, I wanted him to have some training in strategies for taking the test as well as some support in content knowledge for English so that he could work to his best ability on the SAT when he took it this past spring. After taking several weeks of classes from Mr. Maltz, he took the digital SAT in March and scored a 1510 (780 Math, 730 English)! I was so happy for him. I am grateful to Mr. Maltz for creating an effective and affordable class to help my son do his best on the SAT.
