1-2 horas por semana. Each assignment brings students closer to getting published. I will show learners my professional portfolio and will help them start their own.
Informe de progreso
I hope students get to the point of sending off an actual query. But if they don't for some reason, that's OK. They should have enough know-how to try to send one off outside of class on their own.

Many learners who love to write dream of being published but believe they have to be older to do it. Not true. There are dozens of magazines for teens that are written by teens.

In this one-to-one class, I will guide your learner to take on each step leading to publication of their NONFICTION and FICTION ideas.:

1. Developing a subject.
2. Writing a query (article proposal), including the qualifications of the learner,
    even if unpublished.
3. Analyzing potential magazines that publish on the learner's subject.
4. Considering all the factors that influence editors to accept or not accept an article for publication, including:
    • Previous articles on the same topic.
    • Is it something current, timely or an "evergreen" (a subject that can be
used anytime).
    • Seasonal considerations.
    • Experience of the writer.

To continue:

6. Properly formatting the query to send to the right editor.
7. Developing a system for tracking queries.
8. Handling the emotional side of getting published:
    • What to do when getting a positive response; negotiating
deadline or money with a publisher.
    • Preparing for rejection.

This part of the tutoring will take about three to four sessions, and will bring learners to the actual send-off of their first query. They can then submit this query to any number of publications.

I am also available to students if an editor asks them to write an article they proposed.

DISCLAIMER: I don't guarantee that any learner will be published after taking this class. Numerous factors go into getting published beyond learning skills.

Metas de aprendizaje

At the end of these session(s), learners will be able to:
• Use terminology associated with writing and publishing.

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
I've been published in numerous newspapers and magazines. These include: The Boston Globe, The Washington Post, Cosmopolitan, Ladies Home Journal, Woman's Day, Family Circle and Good Housekeeping, among others. And there's my book AN AMERICAN EXPAT IN MALTA (AUK Publishers, England) which was went on AMAZON back in 2012. I'll be happy to provide clips of my work (those I can find).

It took me 21 attempts to get the go-ahead to write my first magazine article (for Family Circle). I don't have a specific degree in writing or language arts, but I've always had the drive to get published. And this is what I'm good at: instilling the drive to succeed in learners no matter how long it takes.

In fact, I taught myself how to get published by reading other people's work in magazines and studying instruction manuals on publishing.

I have my *CELTA degree to teach ESL and have taught on italki.com for 15-plus years. I work with advanced students and have tutored them on writing for college and advanced university degrees.

When reading my Outschool profile, you'll see that most of my credentials and classes are geared toward Egyptology because Egyptology is my main obsession. But now it's time to teach the other subject I really enjoy and that's about writing and getting published.

I hope to see your learners in my tutoring class so I can - with you - witness their joy and pride in moving towards publishing their first (or next) piece of writing.
