During this class students will have a brief introduction to the artist, Pablo Picasso and learn about the art movement known as “Cubism.” The introduction will be followed by a drawing lesson in which students will draw one of Picasso’s famous paintings called, “Girl with a boat.” During the first half of class students will develop the drawing in 5 progressive steps. They will learn that drawings can also be broken down into 5 basic shapes. Picasso used many geometric shapes placed in unusual positions to create fun-filled and often compelling pieces of art! He also used a lot of bright colors to show feeling in his work! During the second half of class, students will learn basic coloring technique. Students will learn three ways to color a finished drawing. Coloring is just as important as the drawing! Your child will be astonished by the many geometric shapes they draw in their completed masterpiece! Never again will they look at shapes, form and color in the same way! It is my hope that I can instill a love for drawing as well as a sense of confidence in your young artist! The cognitive skills that they master while drawing can also be helpful when learning at school! In the materials section you will find everything that you need for this exciting class!

ABOUT ME
I earned a college degree in Botany from Rutgers University, and a master’s degree in School Psychology from Yeshiva University. I have worked as a psychologist and a teacher. As a psychologist I diagnosed and treated children who were having difficulty learning. I worked in the classroom helping teachers determine strategies to help their students succeed. I am also a portrait artist! I love to draw the faces of children! I have many awards through the Atlanta Portrait Society including an Award of Merit (2016). In addition, I love to teach drawing classes! I have a passion to teach children and help them develop their creative talents! I have worked as a drawing instructor for a company called Young Rembrandts. Drawing involves a tremendous number of cognitive skills such as planning, sequencing, memory, and visual motor integration! These skills are important for classroom learning! I enjoy teaching at OUTSCHOOL very much. I offer students a variety of classes including, but not limited to Art History drawing classes, Realistic Animal Portraits and Anime Portrait Drawing classes. Additionally, my Private 1:1 tutoring classes are popular for those students who prefer individualized attention. My family and I live in Atlanta, Georgia. I have three children!
