Tarea
2-4 horas por semana. Students should expect to have homework daily. Keep in mind, every learner processes differently, therefore, it is an approximation that learners will need to set aside 2-4 hours each week to complete homework assignments. Learners are expected to check their work before turning it in by using a calculator to ensure accuracy. Note: Answers are provided at the beginning of the next class. The homework is part of the learning, therefore, learners are expected to have it turned in an hour before class to receive the greatest benefit from the practice work. In this way, the teacher is able to ascertain gaps in learning, misinformation, over-generalizations, etc. and thereby make adjustments to each lesson.

Introduction to Geometry covers a full geometry curriculum, plus many advanced problem
solving geometric applications not found in a standard geometry class. Topics covered in the class
include: triangle similarity and congruence, complicated area problems, mastering the triangle, special
quadrilaterals, polygons, the art of angle chasing, construction, power of a point, 3-dimensional
geometry, transformations, analytic geometry, basic trigonometry, and geometric proofs.

This course is specifically designed for high-performing students and draws material from many
programs for top middle and high school students in the country. Our philosophy is that students
develop more by learning to solve problems they haven’t seen before, as opposed to offering repeated
drills that students can memorize their way through. In this way, this class is structured much more
like a course at a top-tier college.

It is an interactive class, therefore learner will need to have a working camera and microphone.

Each session is built around the presentation of problems that target specific concepts. Students are asked to explore possible strategies to solve these problems. It is in this mode of inquiry that students do the greatest amount of learning. When a teacher can get a student to ask a question, (s)he knows that the learner is truly engaged in the process of knowledge acquisition. And, (s)he knows that then, and only then, has a wonderful place been created for the learner to explore the subject at hand - Geometry!

This course is split into trimester. This is Trimester 1. It meets three times a week for 45-minute sessions.

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
I am a teacher and have been teaching since 1998. I live in Colorado, where I earned a master’s degree from Colorado State University, and my principal licensure in educational leadership from the University of Denver. I taught mathematics, literature & writing (amongst other things) to High School students for over a dozen years, and had a life-changing experience when I moved to the mountains with my husband. Arriving at this location— the home of (primarily) brown bears and deer— I declared myself to be in business as a full-time educator. It soon became evident that few persons in the mountains overheard the declaration, but through the far-reaching wonders of Outschool, I am now able to combine the joys of peaceful mountainous solitude with my husband and my passion for teaching.
