Química general - Parte I (en curso)
Este curso cubrirá el primer semestre de química general de la escuela secundaria. Los estudiantes aprenderán química con aplicaciones del mundo real de una manera divertida y emocionante que se centra en la comprensión de conceptos en lugar de la memorización. #académico

I have set this course up to mirror a general chemistry course using NGSS standards. This will ensure that your student has a cohesive class sequenced in a manner designed to help students make sense of the material and the reasons behind learning this subject matter. Each week will include note sheets, practice problems, and a review. I will have suggestions and examples of chemistry lab activities, but due to the format of this course, it does not include a mandatory laboratory portion. Feel free to jump in at any point if you need a specific concept or want to review it. The newest section begins in the fall of 2023. ⭐Unit 1 - Introduction to Structure and Properties of Matter Week of 9/8/24 - Atomic Structure Week of 9/15/24 - Molecules and Reading Chemical Formulas Week of 9/22/24 - Identifying and Comparing/Contrast Ions and Isotopes Week of 9/29/24 - Intro to Electron Configuration with Bohr's Model, Valence Electrons, and the Octet Rule Week of 10/6/24 - Electron Orbitals (Aufbau Principle) Week of 10/13/24 - Electron Orbitals (Hund's Rule and Pauli Exclusion Principle) Week of 10/20/24 - Reading the Table (Periods/Groups) Week of 10/27/24 - Periodic Table Trends Unit 1 Test - Digital ⭐Unit 2 - Chemical Reactions Week of 11/3/24 - Energy and Bonding/Lewis Diagrams Week of 11/10/24 - Covalent Bonding Week of 11/17/24 - Ionic Bonding Week of 11/24/24 - Metallic Bonding Week of 12/1/24 - Intramolecular and Intermolecular Forces Week of 12/8/24 - Van Der Waals Forces/Determining Bond Type Week of 12/15/24 - VSEPR Theory Week of 12/22/24 - Identifying and Drawing Geometric Molecular Shape Week of 12/29/24 - Binary Ionic Compounds/Intro to Polyatomic Ions Week of 1/5/25 - Polyatomic Ions Continued Unit 2 Test - Digital ⭐Unit 3 - Physical and Chemical Changes to Matter Week of 1/12/25 - Kinetic Molecular Theory Week of 1/19/25- Identifying Physical and Chemical Changes Week of 1/26/25 - Exothermic and Endothermic Reaction Week of 2/2/25- Reaction Diagrams Week of 2/9/25 - Balancing Equations Week of 2/16/25 - Calculating Mass Week of 2/23/25 - Proust's Law Week of 3/2/25 - Types of Reactions Unit 3 Test - Digital ⭐Unit 4 - What is a Mole? Metas de aprendizaje
As stated by the NGSS:
⭐HS-PS1-1: Use the periodic table as a model to predict the relative properties of elements based on the patterns of electrons in the outermost energy level of atoms.
⭐HS-PS1-2: Construct and revise an explanation for the outcome of a simple chemical reaction based on the outermost electron states of atoms, trends in the periodic table, and knowledge of the patterns of chemical properties.
⭐HS-PS1-4: Develop a model to illustrate that the release or absorption of energy from a chemical reaction system depends upon the changes in total bond energy.
⭐HS-PS1-5: Apply scientific principles and evidence to explain the effects of changing the temperature or concentration of the reacting particles on the rate at which a reaction occurs.
⭐HS-PS1-6: Refine the design of a chemical system by specifying a change in conditions that would produce increased amounts of products at equilibrium.
⭐HS-PS1-7: Use mathematical representations to support the claim that atoms and mass are conserved during a chemical reaction.
