Minecraft is known as a sandbox-style game because students have the ability to use their creativity to create new things. We appreciate the learning opportunities in Minecraft and believe the students learn better when they enjoy what they're doing. In this ongoing class, students will play online with a seasoned Minecraft gamer who will challenge them weekly to show off their builds, complete challenges, and enjoy Minecraft in a safe, moderated environment. All students who enroll will be added to a private server hosted by the instructor and only the students in this class will have access. This class will utilize Minecraft: Bedrock Edition, the same version that is running on your consoles (Xbox, PS4, Switch), tablets, and PCs. To join the server, students will need to be signed into their Microsoft Account (to be added as friends) and will need the online gameplay subscription for their device. Xbox players will need Xbox Live, Switch players will need Nintendo Online. Students will also need to share their Minecraft username to the teacher so they can access the world. Only the instructor and other students in this class will be able to see their username. To make sure that all students have a great experience there will be a few rules while playing: 1) No griefing. Don't destroy other's creations or take other's items. 2) No bullying. Treat everyone with respect. If they're not interested in PvP fighting, do not attack them. 3) No inappropriate language or content. If a student is unable to follow these rules, they will be removed from the server for a cooldown. Further violations may result in permanent ban and removal from the course. We will communicate with parents directly if these instances occur. Our philosophies at TechWise Academy: 1) Embrace Mistakes - Coding provides immediate feedback to the learner to correct any mistakes along the way. Mistakes are part of the process of learning. 2) Enjoy Learning - We use fun characters and games to make the learning fun for your student. We know that students learn better when they enjoy the process. 3) Explore Computer Science - We want to expose the problem solving techniques used in computer science to every child. We know every student will not be programmers one day; however, we want to give tools that can be used across any field of study or career. *Cover image was taken in-game and edited by me. *Cover

Orientación para padres
Minecraft contains fantasy cartoon violence.
We will be using a private server in this class and students must share their gamertag with our instructor. Please keep in mind that this should be directly via private message only -- not on the class discussion page.
We will not use the in-game chat communication system in Minecraft. All communication will occur via Zoom and Outschool.
Lista de útiles escolares
This class is for Minecraft Bedrock Edition only (other versions won't connect). As long as the title screen for Minecraft doesn't say "Minecraft Java Edition" or "Minecraft Education Edition" you should have Bedrock Edition.
Recursos externos
Además del aula de Outschool, esta clase utiliza:
Not an official Minecraft product. Not approved or associated with Mojang.

We teach coding & robotics classes to kids Pre-K-12th grade students. We focus primarily on Computational Thinking, or the problem-solving framework, behind Computer Science to make our classes translate well into other areas of study.
What We Do
We are creating a generation of problem solvers and innovators through coding and computer science principles.
Designing and coding video games is something we believe any child with a computer and desire to learn is capable of doing. In summary, our mission is to teach coding and computer science to children, K-12, and introduce them to new ways to problem solve and explore curiosity and creativity. We do this because we feel strongly that this learning style will help them grow into better problem solvers who don’t give up when given a challenge, but instead embrace it as an opportunity.
Our Approach
Embrace mistakes: Evidence suggests during initial learning students retain more information if they’re given the freedom to make mistakes. Encourage them to learn and grow in confidence through mistakes as they seek an answer.
Enjoy learning: Learning and problem solving can be fun through creative activities like coding and game design.
Explore computer science: Computer science is a powerful medium in which students can express themselves to solve challenges in unique ways to enhance their creativity and problem solving.
Our Experience
We've been teaching Pre-K-12th grade students in person since 2015. We partner with local schools and teachers to ensure the curriculum translates well to local education standards.
