Juegos y Club Social: Construyendo una Comunidad Compartida en Survival Minecraft

Join the fun in this class as we build a town together all in survival mode! Every class students will work together to build farms, structures, games, and more in their fully-functioning community. With my guidance students will take it upon themselves to build their own bases and shops, and will work together to compete in fun games with great prizes! Games will be chosen by the group and often times they will help build their own. 

Important skills in communication, planning, and teamwork will be necessary to ensure everyone can peacefully coexist in the town, and students will great relationships with each other as they compete and cooperate during playtime. Many weeks I will bring new games for us to play, based off of real life games and Minecraft-specific ones.  Connecting over Zoom students will be able to work in groups and plan, then execute them to see what sticks. I encourage a time for reflection on how groups' plans unfolded so students can improve next time. Sometimes I will empower students to wear the designer cap themselves, and give them challenges to build their own versions of the games we play together.

While Minecraft's multiplayer servers like the Hive and Hypixel are wonderful places for games and interaction, the lack of voice chat inhibits a more organized and informal game-play style. Furthermore, the way I embed teamwork into the games has come from years of working with camp coordination ensuring that student's communication skills are tested. These games are specifically designed to test kid's creativity and communication in their problem solving. Some examples of games we'll play: capture the flag, race relays, king of the mountain, building their own theme park, "hunger games" and over 20 more!

NOTE ABOUT MINECRAFT: There are two versions of Minecraft that run on different code: Java (PC, Mac, Linux) and Bedrock/Pocket Edition. This class uses Bedrock, and is compatible with the following devices: PC with Windows 10, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, phone or tablet version. This is NOT a Minecraft Java class. Please make sure your child has online-play enabled with their Microsoft account, including Nintendo Switch Online, Xbox Live Gold, and PlayStation® Plus subscriptions for their respective device. I will give more detailed instructions about friending me and joining class upon registering.
