Tarea
Students will record 20-30 minutes of gameplay from an appropriate game in between the first and second class to use in their video project.

Have you always wanted to make gaming videos that people enjoy? In this camp, students will learn the basics of video editing and turn their ideas into entertaining content! 
Students will be given a prompt to record focused gameplay using Streamlabs. They will then take their video and audio recordings and bring them into the DaVinci Resolve software.  From then on, anything is possible!  From cutting clips to working with video effects, students will experience the entire video editing process in an industry-standard program. Students will experience various video editing skills by embracing their passion for gaming, creating, and expressing. At the end of the camp, students will have a finished product and will be able to showcase their work as official video editors!

In addition to providing a fun experience students will learn how to:
 
- Overcome obstacles by employing problem-solving skills
- Execute their creative ideas through conceptualization
- Use technology to accomplish goals
- Give instructions to others and accept feedback from teachers and peers alike

Day 1 (1.5 hours)
-Set up Streamlabs 
-Learn how to make a recording and adjust input volumes
-Set up DaVinci Resolve, make a new project, and import clips
-Discuss video prompt for the class: recording gameplay with your commentary and reactions

Day 2 (1.5 hours)
-Learn the basic tools in DaVinci: blade tool, snapping, position lock, trim edit mode
-Learn about the different types of video cuts: J cut, match cut, cutting on action, cross dissolve
-Practice the skills learned from today in your own video project

Day 3 (1.5 hours)
-Add music and sound effects
-Learn about the different ways to manipulate audio
-Adjust and layer audio tracks using keyframes
-Practice the skills learned from today in your own video project

Day 4 (1.5 hours)
-Add text titles to video project
-Utilize modifyer features: zoom, position, dynamic zoom
-Learn about different types of Fusion effects and use them in the project
-Understand concept of keyframes for basic component animations
-Practice the skills learned from today in your own video project

Day 5 (1.5 hours)
-Learn all about how to send off a finished video file!
-Render and export a finished video
-Share videos with teacher and classmates
-Practice the skills learned from today in your own video project

The teacher will wait up to 15 minutes for students to arrive. If students do not show up within that time and haven’t provided advance notice, the session will not be rescheduled.

PDL Class Policy Please verify that your student understands our policy. We want our students to treat us and each other with respect, and we want to make sure everyone has an enjoyable class time. When in a Playful Digital Learning class, please respect your instructor and other students. - Follow the teacher’s instructions - Be polite and kind when suggesting or criticizing ideas - Allow other students to speak If the class is frequently interrupted or the student is misbehaving: - First time: Verbal or written warning - Second time: Put the student in a breakout room to speak with an instructor one on one - Third time: Student’s Zoom audio will be muted until the teacher deems the behavior is corrected Any warnings will be communicated to the student’s parent/guardian.

Students will need to download StreamLabs, Clipgrab, DaVinci Resolve, and Zoom on the computer. They will also need a microphone and a camera for video communication, as well as a video game of their choice to record their gameplay. Video game must be student-appropriate for this class.

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
The founder of Playful Digital Learning, Yoonhee Lee, has done extensive research on game-based literacy learning. She has a variety of teaching experience in K-12 and adult contexts in Korea and the US. She is currently teaching pre-service teachers in Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College at ASU. Her research topic is focusing on gaming and learning. 

Teacher Joshua Watkins is a current student at San Diego Mesa College pursuing a degree in History.  He loves to see kids expand their creative potential through the real-world skill of video editing.  He has over seven years of experience working with a variety of editing software programs on both the Mac and PC platforms.

Teacher Michelle Resubal, is a current student at San Diego State University pursuing a degree in Psychology. She enjoys using her creativity and leadership skills to work with students and provide a welcoming PDL experience. She has loved creating videos and has practiced her skills on various video editing softwares ever since she was in high school!
