Diversión con la escritura: instrucción o tutoría

Please let me know any expectations you have, including how much homework (if any) you would like me to assign the student on a weekly basis. I can assign weekly homework assignments but want to be sure the work is manageable for each individual student. 

If students need a writing tutor for their current writing class or if they need more guidance for providing assignments and activities, either is okay with me! The parent or student can let me know particular areas to focus on either way. Areas of focus may include grammar, spelling, vocabulary, sentence structure, outlining, research, figuring out what to write about, etc. 

  The student can come to class with a piece of writing that we can discuss and edit, or we can work on a piece of writing in class. We will start the first session with a short introduction about goals and areas for improvement. Then we will begin editing or playing a game to introduce grammar concepts and new vocabulary. During the editing process or game, I will evaluate the student's skill level and areas for improvement. We will work with certain templates for writing short essays, informative paragraphs, narratives, as well as creative writing such as poems, songs, and stories. 

There are a lot of activities we can work on that improve all aspects of writing. We will focus on sentence structure, vocabulary, descriptive writing, and organization of ideas. We will play games to expand imagination and vocabulary which improves student’s ability to think as well as write. The games involve brainstorming synonyms, very descriptive adjectives, verbs, using varying subjects, and more. Learning to write well also involves logic and this is another area I like to focus on with students. 

Some games will help students with their ability to explain things in a way the reader can understand fully. For example, by playing a game with pictures, students look at a picture in real life or in their heads and describe it to me so that I can draw it. Then we compare!
