In level 3 of Scratch for Kids, students use extension blocks to create advanced projects with new features and program a micro:bit device to interact with their projects. Micro:bit is a pocket-sized, affordable, beginner-friendly programmable computer that is compatible with Scratch. Students love using micro:bit as a game controller and programming the LED display to show images and text. The micro:bit’s motion sensing capabilities detect movement, tilts, and shakes, allowing students to...
10 lessons//10 Weeks
Week 1Lesson 1TronStudents learn how to create a two-player game in which you try to move around without crossing your opponent's path or touching the edge.Week 2Lesson 2Wave ChallengeStudents learn how to create a game in which you use the spacebar to navigate a character through several levels of a maze without touching any of the edgesWeek 3Lesson 3Human vs RobotStudents learn to create a two-player game in which each player has a different objective and uses a different method of controlling their character.Week 4Lesson 4Prime Number GeneratorStudents learn to use mathematical operations, loops, and lists to systematically generate sets of prime numbers.Week 5Lesson 5Get familiar with Micro:bitStudents learn to connect their Micro.bit to Scratch coding platform.Week 6Lesson 6Jump Cat with Micro:bitStudents learn to make an interactive motion project with their micro:bit. This project uses the micro:bit’s accelerometer to sense when it’s been shaken and makes the Scratch cat sprite jump at the same time.Week 7Lesson 7Scratch Painting with Micro:bitStudents learn to use the micro:bit’s accelerometer to guide the pencil sprite around the screen, drawing a line as it moves.Week 8Lesson 8Scratch Hungry Dino with Micro:bitStudents learn to make another fun interactive game with their Micro.bit. This project is to make a wireless game controller with your micro:bit and Scratch and help feed tacos to your dinosaur!Week 9Lesson 9Review and Final Project WorkshopStudents play live competitive review games to reinforce all concepts taught. Class time is dedicated to helping students while they work on final projects and answering any questions they have.Week 10Lesson 10Final Project PresentationsStudents demonstrate what they’ve learned by sharing their creation with the class. They can get feedback from peers and the instructor, and get suggestions on how to make the project even better.
- In this online live course, students will expand on their Scratch programming skills, make games and solve programming problems, and learn to use a programmable micro:bit to add a hardware component to their Scratch creations.
