Grado de EE. UU. 1 - 4
This course will engage learners as they explore the basics of chemistry. They will learn about and experience chemistry by creating models, conducting experiments, playing Periodic Table of Elements Bingo and other hands-on interactive activities. All of the lessons will be pre-recorded and students will be able to view the lessons via the links that will be shared each week. They won't want to miss this!

Class 1: What's the Matter? (New updated lesson with multiple hands-on activities!)
Introduction to building blocks of matter and properties of matter
Model structure of atoms in solids, liquids & gases
Lab: Making Matter - Root Beer Floats
Materials Needed: Objects to represent atoms - skittles, M&Ms, or round cereal

Class 2: Atoms & Properties of Matter
Introduction to the structure of atoms and the subatomic particles of atoms (protons, neutrons & electrons)
We will build atom models
Materials Needed: (Students will need three types of pony beads (or another type of small object such as M&Ms/fruit snacks)

Class 3: Periodic Table of Elements
Introduction to the Periodic Table of Elements (How to read the Periodic Table)
Color-Code the Periodic Table of Elements
Periodic Table of Elements Bingo

Class 4: Physical & Chemical Changes
Introduction to Physical & Chemical Changes
Potion Making Lab Activities

Class 5: Acids & Bases
Introduction of Acids and Bases
Acid & Base Testing using pH paper
Students will need pH paper, which can be ordered using this link:

A self paced course allows learners to cover material during a time that is convenient for them each week. Students are encouraged to check in with the teacher weekly via the Outschool classroom, which will allow for more engagement between the teacher and learner. After weekly lessons, students can collaborate with the teacher by replying to the announcements and lesson postings in the Outschool classroom.

Participation is encouraged but not required. I can include an introduction post, discussion posts, assignments, and projects in the classroom. This allows students to process what they are learning by collaborating with the teacher and it reinforces learning. This also provides opportunities for the teacher to gauge student learning and provide interventions if necessary. Private messages or classroom comments are usually responded to within 24 hours with the exception of weekends.

Lección 1:
What's the Matter?
Dive into the wonders of matter, focusing on states of matter and water. Engaging activities include identifying solids, liquids, and gases, observing ice melting, and discussing properties. This interactive lesson captivates young minds with hands-on exploration of the fascinating world of matter.
Lección 2:
Atoms & Properties of Matter
Learners will embark on a journey to explore atoms and the properties of matter. Through interactive activities like building models and observing everyday objects, they'll discover how atoms make up everything around us and learn about the different properties of solids, liquids, and gases. This hands-on experience will ignite their curiosity about the building blocks of our world!"
Lección 3:
Reading the Periodic Table of Elements
We will learn about the fascinating world of the periodic table of elements in this interactive lesson. Through engaging visuals and hands-on activities, they'll decode elements, understand atomic numbers, and explore elemental properties. This exploration of chemistry's building blocks sparks curiosity and lays a foundation for future scientific inquiry.
Lección 4:
Physical & Chemical Changes
Embark on an exciting exploration of physical and chemical changes in this interactive lesson. Through hands-on experiments and engaging demonstrations, they'll differentiate between physical changes like melting ice and chemical changes like rusting metal. This immersive experience fosters curiosity and deepens their understanding of how matter transforms in our world as we make scientific potions! (We will make oobleck!)
